Old Delhi is synonymous with some legendary food outlets. Right from Mughali to sweets, you'll find everything here. And today, I went to one of those places which is famous for its Chole Bhature - Radhe Shyam Subhash Kumar.
Located in Pahar Ganj, it is seamlessly accessible. It's hardly 100n away from New Delhi railway/metro station. I reached there at 11am and the place was brimming with happy customers. Not wasting much time, I ordered a plate of Chole Bhature. It took just 5 minutes for my plate to arrive.
As soon as it arrived, I completely devoured it. The bhatooras were very soft and fluffy. There was stuffing of paneer inside. Althoug they were fried, they weren't heavy like your usual bhaturas. The Chole accompanied were full of flavours but there weren't spicy at all. This is the USP of this place. Even a person like me, who doesn't like spicy food, will love the Chole Bhature from here.
To have my Chole Bhature in peace, I ordered a glass of Lassi with it. It's an unsaid rule for all the Delhiites - a Chole Bhature meal is incomplete without a glass of Lassi to go with it. This one was thick and extra sweet - just how I like it. And like all the good Lassi places, it has a good layer of Malai on top. If you don't like Sweet Lassi, then there's also an option of Chhachh. Have that and enjoy your meal.
Overall, this is a gem of a place. Chances are, you would have already tried this place but if not, then do try it and get sorted...
Read moreI have eaten Chhole Bhature in entire Delhi-NCR, but this place serves the best chhole bhature by far. Everyone else, be it Nand, Chache Di Hatti, Sita Ram, fail in front of them.
The only downside is the location of their shop. I don’t mind munching nearby railway stations but the shop is located at the backside of “Sulabh Shouchalaya” (Public Urinal) and keeps giving you unhygienic feeling plus you can easily find ammonia smell in the air at times.
Observations: I have been eating here for quite a sometime now, even I would go directly to this place first after landing at the Delhi airport before going to my home when I used to live in Mumbai. So you can say I am well aware of the place. They have changed the price very frequently and today (Sept 2023) if you go there and eat a place Chhole Bhature and a glass of Lassi, it will cost you Rs. 150.
Second, they do not serve Cold Drinks and Water so if you like to eat Chhole Bhature with Cold Drink, take your own.
Third, avoid payment by cash. The place becomes very crowded, and the aging owner sitting at the counter sometimes forgets to return changes or remembers that you have already paid. Also, there could be pickpocketing. So avoid taking our money or wallet.
Cooltip: If you eat in the packed box, you will get less chhole and cannot...
