Fish Thali Experience:
The fish thali at Gharan Family Restaurant is a delightful culinary journey through the flavors of Goa. Served on a traditional banana leaf, the thali includes a variety of seafood dishes that showcase the region’s rich coastal heritage. Here’s what you can expect:
Fish Curry: The heart of any Goan meal, the fish curry is a fragrant blend of coconut, spices, and fresh fish. Gharan’s version is flavorful, with just the right balance of heat and tanginess.
Rice: The steamed rice serves as the perfect base for the thali. It soaks up the delicious curry and complements the other dishes.
Fish Fry: Crispy and golden, the fish fry is a highlight. Whether it’s pomfret, kingfish, or mackerel, Gharan ensures that the fish is perfectly seasoned and fried to perfection.
Sol Kadhi: This refreshing drink made from kokum and coconut milk cleanses the palate and balances the spiciness of the curry.
Accompaniments: The thali also includes various accompaniments like pickle, papad, and a side of vegetables or lentils.
Seafood Delights:
Apart from the thali, Gharan offers an array of seafood dishes that are worth exploring:
Prawn Balchão: A fiery prawn pickle with a tangy and spicy flavor profile. It pairs wonderfully with steamed rice.
Crab Xec Xec: A Goan specialty, this dish features crab cooked in a rich coconut-based gravy with aromatic spices.
Calamari Recheado: Stuffed squid with a flavorful masala paste, grilled to perfection.
Goan Fish Curry Rice: For a simpler meal, try their fish curry rice—a comforting bowl of fish curry...
Read moreI had great expectations from this restaurant but it was not up to the mark to even pass one star.
We visited on 17th June (Tuesday), we ordered the below dishes (Veg pakora, prawn masala fry, batter fried squid, 02 butter naan, 03 non alcoholic drinks).
As soon as we entered the restaurant we were greeted with a foul damp odour (yes, like the one you usually get on the clothes if not dried well), we entered with courage and compromised the odour, the server brought us a menu quickly and hell broke loose, the menu card was stinking bad (*please carry a sanitizer with you, you will thank me later), hygiene is basically gone for a toss.
Let me rate the food, it was pathetic. The Veg pakora was full of baking soda, same goes with the batter fried squid (*well who can go wrong here, but these guys did it).
The height was when the prawns served were not cleaned, the head part had the green mucus and it was all in the gravy. It was a total put off.
I hope the owner will take this as a positive criticism and please change the COOK. He has absolutely no knowledge of cooking. A local bar in the remote village of Goa makes delicious squid and prawns dishes.
Lets hope someday, we land back at Gharan and things have changed....I can reply on the same comment back again.
Best of luck to the owner and to the dear food lovers. (*Please carry...
Read moreThis is one of the worst restaurants I have experienced. The service is a total ZERO & food quality was also not satisfactory.
I visited this place with my family on 26-May. We were given two tables at the corner. There was no proper air circulation & we were all sweating. My mother asked for a glass of water but just to provide that they took almost 20 min. There were no tissue papers on the tables. When I asked at the cash counter, the lady at the counter told me that they do not have tissue paper in stock & someone has gone out to purchase. We ordered some dry starters, Chicken Handi, Biryani & Kingfish Thali but the quality of the food was not satisfactory. Fried Kingfish was smelling very bad which meant that turmeric & spices were not applied properly. Even the Kokum Kadi tasted just like salt water with no kokum taste. The wash basin area was filled with smoke from kitchen since the exhaust & air circulation mechanism was not proper.
When the food was served, the staff did not even care to serve food. They just kept on the table and went. Even if we wanted anything extra, we had to call the staff repeatedly. The quantity of the food was too less for the price charged.
This place might be Ok for office goers or daily wage workers but if anyone is looking for a decent place to go out with family, PLEASE...
