One of my favourite coffee joints in Baroda. I like and pick small independent businesses over corporate chains any day. The place is never crowded because the management cant be bothered to advertise it and i like that. It has a very pleasant ambience with a f light and spacious feel to it. Very good sense of design and asthetics. High quality and varied selection of coffees & a limited but tasty food menu. One of the few places in Baroda that does Vietnamese coffee. The service is just okay and depends on the day. Its often shut because the people who runs the place; it looks more like a passion project for them than a means for livelihood. Items on the menu are often out of stock but whatever they serve, is good quality. The day labourer looking person who clears the table is super weird and seems unintentionally rude due to a complete lack of a sense of hospitality. He is so clueless on how to speak to customers and often grabbing half finished drinks in his rush to clear up; i cant decide whether to be amused or get irritated. Anyway, i like to keep going back to the place and have gotten used to it quirks.
My suggestions - get rid of those flimsy black IKEA chairs and replace it with solid wooden chairs. The food menu is too heavy on breads and pasta, introduce lighter, non grain based items like dips - labneh, hummus etc or salads or anything with veggies that complements the breads already...
Read moreBeen going to this place ever since it has opened and today after visiting another cafe in the city, I realised how much of a safe haven Modernist has been and how thankful I am for it being here.
This place is much more than the coffee and food, it is about the experience. I’ve been there on days where I was the only table and on days when it was almost filled and yet it always feels welcoming. Everyone seems to be having a good time, and yet not creating an environment that is uncomfortable to others. Obviously, the place being pet friendly adds to the charm. Anytime I spot a pet there it does bring a smile to my face.
Talking about the actual food and beverages, I believe there are ample options to choose from . Also, if you follow them on social media, they are always trying new things and coming up with specials. The stories and posts about the process that goes into the things they make also shows how transparent they are. None of their dishes are overly complicated and that is just the thing that has me hooked on them. It is simple and it is done good.
The pictures are from various visits over the last few years. The dishes/cups might have changed but the taste had...
Read moreI recently visited Modernist cafe, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The decor was rustic and charming, with warm lighting and comfortable seating.
But of course, a cafe is about more than just ambiance - it's about the food and drinks. And in that regard, Cafe did not disappoint. I tried the latte, and it was one of the best I've had in a long time. The espresso was rich and full-bodied, and the milk was perfectly steamed. I also ordered a croissant, which was flaky and buttery - just the way a croissant should be.
But what really stood out to me was the level of service. The barista who took my order was friendly and engaging, and seemed genuinely interested in making my experience a good one. And when I needed to add a little more milk to my latte, he was happy to oblige.
All in all, I highly recommend this cafe. Whether you're looking for a cozy spot to work or study, or simply a place to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a pastry, this cafe is well worth a visit. I'll...
