I stay at Chandkheda. Yesterday I visited a nearby restaurant for lunch where I saw the manager in uniform who was least bothered to welcome the guests/customers and I guess his smile may be very expensive.
This reminded me of my last week's visit to Sambar Cafe with my friends. After placing the order I noticed a guy very well dressed in casuals, attending almost every table, be it of 2 or 6 people, and bringing smile on everyone's face. I assumed he must be the owner of this outlet.
Later on, while we were having our meal (dosas of our choices) he came and asked if everything was fine and started interacting with us. He has got a great sense of humour and knows very well how to connect with people.
He suggested us to try some more dishes as Sambar Cafe serves authentic South Indian dishes and not only dosas. We took up his suggestion and asked him to add 2 plates of Thatte Idlis and 2 plates of Rava Kesari (sweet). He then suggested to order only 1 Rava Kesari between 5 of us and this is actually where he played really smart if anyone can understand. And now because of him I will have to share my love for Mysore Masala Dosa with Thatte Idli and Rava Kesari.
We will surely try some more dishes next time taking his suggestion as we visit Sambar Cafe frequently. Sambar Cafe is rightly named as you cannot find such Sambar in any corner of Ahmedabad.
When we had finished and paying our bill at the counter I asked him if he is the owner there, he told us he is the new manager and his name is Vinod (hope I am not mistaken with his name)
This review full of stars is for Sambar Cafe as well as the manager there. In fact 10 stars for the manager as he made not only us but every customer feel...

Ambience: 5/5 The moment I stepped in, I was struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor is vibrant and colorful, with beautiful traditional elements that transport you to the streets of South India.
Service: 5/5 The staff is exceptionally friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to explain the different dishes and made excellent recommendations.
Food: 5/5 Oh, the food! It's a culinary journey through South India, with every bite a flavor sensation. I ordered the dosas, idlis, and vadas, all of which were cooked to perfection. The sambar and chutneys were divine, and the filter coffee was a lovely touch.
The masala dosa amd ghee podi roast was crispy, golden, and served with a side of spicy potato filling that was simply addictive. . . The idlis were soft, fluffy, and paired beautifully with the sambar and chutney. the filter coffee was perfect..
Value: 5/5 Reasonably priced, especially considering the generous portion sizes and high-quality ingredients.
Overall, [sambar cafe] is a true gem for South Indian cuisine. Don't miss out on this incredible dining...
Read moreIt is a gem! 🫠 My friends kept recommending this place but I never happened to visit Sambhar Cafe ever before. I preferred table service to self-service, which is the case here. But, oh, how it was all worth it.
The restaurant has hand painted drawings on the wall, representing the art of the state with dimmed lights. Although the place looks small from the outside, they have enough table to manage 40-50 people, or more. The interior is colourful and uplifting.
We ordered - Filter Coffee Rava Masala Dosa Plain Dosa Thatte Idli Idli-Vada Platter Mixed Veg Uttapam
Everything is was flavourful. 😮💨 Dosa was perfectly crispy. Idlis were melting in our mouth. I had asked for Thatte Idli without the masala so I only get ghee portion on it but I received it with no such alteration. Can’t really complain since I loved this version entirely differently.
As for the service, the service station displays the number mentioned on our bill when the food is ready. Pretty sure that’s the concept everywhere 😅 I want to highlight the time of delivery, though. Our orders were...
