The 5 stars also are less for this place it could actually deserve an infinite rating for the food they serve and the hospitality and kindness they share towards their customers.
I had visited this place twice once in morning and in evening.
Morning experience-
As i was a tourist here in vadodara, i tght would be difficult to find the place and i had planned to visit here based on reviews on Google , but i was wrong the place is so famous that everyone knows it.
I visited there at 3.15 PM with my family and the place was about to close at 3.30 PM we took our four veg Gujarati thali coupouns and when we started having the food the food was so mouth watering and delicious, one who is there as a tourist and need to eat authentic Gujarati food should visit here. The thali was unlimited at the cost. As the restaurant is very punctual about the closing hours, the staff kept all variety of the food that is in thali aside our table and asked us too have as many as us want. The thali menu changes everyday but sure all day it will be having same good taste as i had. Also the extra price sweet addon was so delicious, u must try their raajbhog shrikhand and gajar halwa which was 40rs per vaati.
We left the place with satisfaction to our stomach and heart.
Evening visit-
We were leaving Vadodara for Sansan gir and it was late to us too have food and we again decided to visit the same place, we reached there by 10.30 Pm and the closing time was i guess 11.00 Pm.
In evening they dnt have thali option, they serve whole menu separate and we order accordingly as the restaurant closing time was near they ask to order the food at once to avoid inconvenience to us.
Again we had sev tomato no saag which was one of the fav which i like there.
Anyways i liked the whole food there but the main part comes now which i liked the most of the owner or the manager that was there.
Our car had a problem with the breaks and which was suspected by the driver late and by the time we fetch any mechanic it was 10.30PM at night, so we decided to eat first and then think of mechanic.
As we had already departed and vacant the hotel for going to sasan gir(approx 500 kms traveling from Vadodara) we needed a mechanic must.
After having my food, i asked the aged person who was my grandfathers age, sitting on the main manager seat (dnt knw whether that sir was owner or manager,) The sir started making Calls to his contacts for searching mechanic to us, he and his colleague tried many calls for us like 3 to 4 mechanics to call and atlast one of the mechanic in coordination with drive solved our brake problem on call itself and we were so much thankful to the restaurant sir who helped us so late even it was the restaurant closing time and they are punctual about the time, they hold for us mlre half an hour, jus for helping us.
Thanks for helping us in our need, would express my sincere gratitude towards the sir who helped us at so late night.
In short the place would be great described as " Taste, authenticity, and kindness packed in one khidki"
Note- very punctual about closing hours, cash...
Read moreLocated in the midst of the old city, nearby the Clock Tower, Raopura. Shree Kathiyawadi Khadki is one of the prominent names in Vadodara when it comes to Kathiyawadi food.
Ambiance: As the name suggests Kathiyawadi Khadki is located in a small compact 'Khadki' (lane) with tables and chairs to have appropriate seating structure so that the connoisseurs can eat and cherish the taste of the food. Having said of the space, the owners have refurbished the interiors so as to give it a feel of traditional 'Kathiyawar' village.
Service: The service is prompt and without any hassles. The manager and the waiters are always smiling and ready to help us in all way possible. The approximate wait time for the food to come is around 10 minutes which I find good as compared to other restaurants. The Indian bread (chapatis) are served piping hot along with the veggies and that's another plus point at this place.
Cost: The cost has increased slightly during recent times but considering the amount of food they provide it is value for money. A budget of 300-350 for 2-3 people will make them fully satisfied once they come out after eating. Also there's a fixed lunch service but as the name suggest it's only available during the day.
My recommendation: Try the ever green 'Lasaniya Bataka' or 'Ringana nu Bhartu' if you're in doubt over which veggie to choose. However if you visit this place around winter I would recommend 'Undhiyu' (Mixed Vegetables) as the must order food item complimented by 'Chhass'...
Read moreKathiyawadi Khadki has been a beloved part of Vadodara’s culinary landscape for decades, and my recent visit with my father reminded me why it holds such a special place in my heart. After 10 years, I had the pleasure of dining at their newly renovated space, and it felt like coming home to authentic, wholesome Gujarati flavors.
We ordered two thalis (₹150 each, with unlimited refills), which were a perfect blend of traditional and comforting dishes. From the flavorful palak methi sabzi and kala chana nu shaak to the hearty bataka nu shaak (gravy), every dish was cooked to perfection. The freshly made rotlis, crispy papad, refreshing kachumber, soft khaman, tangy chutney, and the classic dal and rice completed the meal beautifully.
We also couldn’t resist adding sweets to our order: a rich ghee no laddoo (₹40) and indulgent gajar no halwa (₹60). Though sweets are not part of the thali and come in limited portions, they are absolutely worth it!
The hospitality was warm and welcoming, just as I remembered, and the renovated space adds a fresh charm while maintaining its authentic vibe. If you’re looking for an authentic Gujarati dining experience with exceptional value, Kathiyawadi Khadki is a must-visit. I’ve dined here countless times over the years, and this visit reaffirmed why it’s a timeless...
