Long before Bollywood started thronging Mahendra Thaal for promotions, I have been a regular. I remember the sleep I had had after I had dined here first. Their Rasa wala bateta, daal and bhaat is a kind of inebriation I would want to have everyday.

My latest visit on last Sunday re-affirmed my faith in Gujarati Thali. Every now & then I would crave for a Thali and will be satiated at home, courtesy my mom. This time around, the moment I craved our very own Gujju Thali, I set off at Mahendra Thaal. And it wasn't and impromptu decision, mind you. I had called all 5-6 good restaurants that serve Thali and made the decision based on which restaurant was serving the best farsan that day..

Any place that serves Dhokla & Handva is automatically cancelled as I have never liked either at Thali places. Upon inquiring at Mahendra Thaal, I was told they had Samosa, Khandvi and Mexican Tacos for Farsan. I was sold at Samosa & Khandvi only. To further my choice I inquired about the shaak. Undhiyu, Mix Kathol, Batata Rasa Wala and Paneer. I ignored the mention of Paneer like we ignore the constant reminder of air hostess asking us to sit down as soon as the plane lands :p

I am not a mithai person per se but Khajoor, Anjeer Vedhmi did tickle my earbuds just as Basundi did.

I was sure that either of Samosa, Khandvi, Undhiyu or Dal would be showstopper but to my utter surprise it was Vedhmi. This bite sized, no added-sugar, crispy puran-poli stuffed with dates and figs were a delight to taste buds. It was a no non-sense, simple dish. Absolutely loved it.

I have seen this happen a lot of times that a Farsan is changed mid-way of the service because they have run out of it. Dearest Samosa that I was waiting for was replaced by cutlets. Now, Samosa was one of the major factor of my decision making, I did not stage a walk-out on it's absence. Khandvi and Cutlets were both good. I have no idea what was Mexican Tacos doing in a Gujarati Thali and I don't even want to understand it's rationale (if it has). Surati Undhiyu (Green) was nice. Rasa Wala Batata and Dal-Bhaat did wonders as always and I came out tummy-full and satisfied.

An entire wall is dedicated to the pictures of our "beloved stars" but I think it is our cuisine that truly shines at...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Shree Mahendra Thal restaurant located on Ahmedabad's SG Highway. As a lover of Gujarati cuisine, I must say that the experience was nothing short of delightful. The restaurant offers a wide range of options for both lunch and dinner, making it a versatile choice for any occasion.

The highlight of my visit was their unlimited Gujarati dinner, which I enjoyed with a group of friends. The array of dishes was simply fantastic, and the taste was beyond compare. From the aromatic dal and lip-smacking kadhi to the perfectly spiced vegetables and delectable sweets, every item on the menu was a testament to the rich flavors of Gujarati cuisine.

What sets Shree Mahendra Thal apart is not only the quality of the food but also the warm and inviting ambience. The staff was incredibly attentive, ensuring that our dining experience was exceptional from start to finish. The restaurant itself is spacious and beautifully decorated, providing a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere for diners.

Moreover, the pricing at Shree Mahendra Thal is reasonable, considering the variety and quality of food offered. It is definitely worth every penny spent.

Overall, I highly recommend Shree Mahendra Thal to anyone looking for an outstanding Gujarati dining experience in Ahmedabad. Whether you're a fan of authentic Gujarati cuisine or simply want to explore the rich culinary heritage of the region, this restaurant is sure to leave your taste buds satisfied and your...

Our anticipation of an renowned Gujarati thali experience turned sour.

Not of food but waiting experience was so partial that on observing both delays and preferential treatment, we chose to exit and dine at ground floor restaurant.

Request management to both streamline entry process and offer seating arrangements at par with inside arrangements. No partiality.

Going to give another try on weekdays.

Continue to tingle your taste buds!

Second try almost five months later and this time it’s the fine delivery in adversity that matters here.

Admist full crowd of holiday and limited dining space, they are well synchronised for customer orientation. Though you face inconvenience in waiting, it’s worth compensated by caring staff and meals served inside.

Trust they come up with some solution for expansion and some relief for waiting customers.

Food and service is good and icing to the cake is personal involvement by their key personals in in-house customer and food management.

Ample parking available. Barring weekends and holidays should be a good experience at ease.

Try their...

👎🏻 Food quality is bad 🤢 The Basundi tasted like a milkmaid 🥴 and the paneer sabji was not tasty either. The paneer sabji lacked taste and the taste of every dish was below average. 🥘 The only Gujarati dal, which was good. However, this does not make up for the lack of variety in the food 🥣. 🥵 AC not working 🆘 and the small dining area was uncomfortable 😰 due to the weekend and festival crowds. 🤥 To make matters worse, the restaurant falsely advertised serving food in silver thalis. This is a big blunder and foolishness on their part 🤦🏻‍♂️, making it difficult to recommend this place to anyone ❌. The prices were exorbitant, with each person being charged Rs. 370 💸 for a thali that did not live up to its hype. "overpriced cost" The staff service is good, and there was no attention paid to the quality of the food. In conclusion, we would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I urge people to avoid experimenting with this restaurant and look for better options in the area. ⚠️.
