This would rate as one of the best meals I have ever had in Gurgaon! Cooked with perfection and served with lots of love! My mother found out about this restaurant after reading some fabulous reviews and we were very excited to enjoy a meal here. The restaurant is located in DLF City Court near the Metro Station on the 2nd floor, is a very small & cozy place decorated with Kashmiri handicrafts and has an open kitchen - this is the concept I admire a lot as this talks volumes about the confidence of the owners & the team on their cooking & hygiene! I had a pre-booked a table and we were welcomed by the owner with whom we had a lot of food conversations! We ordered: 1. Kabargah - Ribs of young lamb or goat, cooked in milk and spices then fried in ghee (clarified butter). Thi was simply superb!
Mutton Kanti - Mutton in small pieces with onions, spices, dhaniya and salt. Simple yet, so delicious! 3. Dahi Mooli - A very simple and lip-smacking concoction. We gobbled up 3 bowls!
Special Green Chutney with Onions - The owner made this with love for us; this was quite hot & spicy plus very delectable.
Tawa Rotis oozing with Ghee
Mutton Rogan Josh - The quintissential Kashmiri lamb delicacy
Dum Aloo - The quintissential Kashmiri vegetarian delicacy
Yellow Paneer/Chaman Kaliya - Flavoured with ground cardamom and fennel.
Phirni - Delightful, mellow and mildly sweet All these items were simply fantastic and mighty delicious! I got one more Phirni packed and devoured it when i got back home. This is one of those places where I felt I was having a meal with a family! A lot of credit goes to the 2-member cooking team who cooked everything fresh after we ordered; this also meant that we had to wait a lot but believe me the wait was more than worth it and much better than serving pre-cooked & stale food! The owner is a thorough gentlemen and I wish him the best of luck for this venture. Hope more and more people get to enjoy authentic Kashmiri Pandits' cuisine. The name of the Restaurant is Matamaal which means "Nani's Home" and all of us have special memories of our Nani's homes when we used to visit it during our childhood vacations. I would go back again and definitely pre-order the Mutton Biryani and the fish! FABULOUS...
Read moreWent there for a family dinner after hearing rave reviews but was thoroughly disappointed. Everything was too oily and tasteless except a few. Below are the things we ordered Kabargah - couldn't make out it was grilled or fried. Too greasy and extremely bland. My 4 year old liked it but rest of us were trying to find any flavor in it but couldn't. Nadur monje - Good chips. Paneer kanti - too greasy. Paneer was almost crumb fried, not sure if it was supposed to be like that! Chicken seekh - Good Mutton rogan Josh - pieces were good but gravy was meh. They literally just gave 2 tbsp of gravy for a portion for 2 people (says on the menu it's for 2 people) and when I asked the waiter for more gravy, he said this is what you get since it's thick gravy! I didn't argue with him but he clearly lacked any courtesy whatsoever. Taste was not great either or we dint get enough to get a good taste! Nadur Palak - Too greasy, could literally see oil floating in it. Taste was good though Sheer maal - really good. Must try Mixed breads - nothing out of the ordinary Phirni - good. But the phirnis were just lying casually in the open near the entrance without any covering, so avoid if you are a cleanliness freak. We also wanted to order soup but were surprised to know there were none on the menu!
Overall, a massive let down for a restaurant with so much hype! Food was strictly average or below in some cases. Simply tagging a lable doesn't make it authentic, it needs to taste good as well. Staff was not bothered to clean the tables during service or serve water or pay any attention. For the price they charge, these are basics which ought to be taken care of. Don't think will go there again or recommend...
Read moreHi Everyone,
I have been planning for Kashmiri cuisine since days and finally I reached this Mata Maal Kashmiri Restaurant which is located at City court and nearest metro is Sikenderpur.
This restaurant looks beautiful inside. The decoration will give you full kashmiri vibes. The wall is decorated with beautiful art work, wood work with fine carvings, they also have small shop at the entrance of restro where you can buy different spices, dry fruits, kurtas, and many more things. They have this constant kashmiri music which keeps playing in the background and i loved it. I loved the atmosphere, smell, music, decoration, and most important staff. Staffs were so polite, helpful and decent. They also offered us free Kehwa which is a famous drink in Kashmir. People always recommend these drinks. I also broke one glass by mistake but they didn’t charged me even single penny for that and I’m thankful for the behaviour. It’s very rare that you’ll get such decent staffs.
But I’m not happy with the food I had. I had Wazwan chicken seekh which was okayish, also garlic naan and mutton rogenjosh which I really didn’t liked. Naan was good but mutton made me sad coz of the taste. I also had kehwa which was again fine but not sure. It’s not like i wont recommend to go there but the food which i chose was not apt according to my taste.
I would recommend if you want to feel the essence of kashmir in delhi, definitely you can go here and keep me updated with the food you had which you find good in taste. I didn’t find the luck in taste this time.
I’ll try again someday.
To the staffs-Thank you so much for being humble and kind. I really appreciate the behaviour from the bottom of my...
