As a chef with over a decade of experience in South Indian cuisine, I was disappointed by the food served at shri. Rangam. Despite the menu boasting famous dishes from the South and Udupi region, there's considerable room for improvement. Here are some observations and suggestions on basis of what was served to us:
Pre-packed Parathas: The texture of the parathas indicated they were pre-packed, which affects their quality and taste.
Ghee Roast: The ghee roast lacked the rich flavor of ghee and seemed to be more of a spice paste with no vegetables. I recommend considering a jackfruit ghee roast instead of paneer for a more authentic taste.
Research on Ingredients: It's essential to research the ingredients used in each dish. For instance, using Kashmiri chillies for ghee roast is incorrect as it compromises the nutty flavor characteristic of the dish.
Flavorful Chutneys: South Indian cuisine is known for its bold and vibrant flavors. However, the chutneys served were lacking in taste, with some even lacking salt.
Appam Batter: Appam is a delicacy with a distinct fermented flavor. However, the batter used seemed to be the same as dosa batter, which affected the authenticity of the dish.
Bland Stew: The stew served was disappointingly bland, failing to capture the essence of this beloved dish.
To the team at shri rangam, I urge you to ensure that what you serve aligns with your claims. Abhishek Sharma, I encourage you to review your recipes to ensure they reflect the authentic flavors of South...

This is a sister restaurant, so to speak, of Sri Moturam Prasadam (North Indian)
On the other hand, Sri Rangam deals with South Indian cuisine.
Me and my father got ourselves the Maha Bhog (around ₹450/-), which ended up satiating our hunger and some more [it is to be considered that we were quite hungry as well].
They serve on a large leaf which adds to a nice presentation (does affect the overall experience).
What I found surprising, however, was how each of the accompaniments were so good. Now, I don't regularly eat out but when I do, I tend to critique what I eat and this was something I was very impressed by.
Stuff felt authentic and you could feel the care and expertise put into the whole thing.
They must've employed a skilled chef because this was fine dine level for me (that too at such a reasonable price).
I might sound like I am sponsoring them (xD) but it is because I am rather passionate about food and when I have something really good, it turns into a pleasant memory that lasts.
We asked them for 2 extra puris and they provided that without extra charge (iirc). +1 for service.
The only minor gripe I had was that the rice was a bit hard (although that might've to do with the kind) and the skin of aloo Vada balls had a little too much oil.
I duly informed this feedback at the counter.
Highly recommended for a family,...
Read moreOn April 21st, my family and I, totaling 10 guests, chose this venue to celebrate my birthday. Regrettably, our experience did not meet expectations. Despite prior acclaim on Instagram regarding food quality and presentation, reality failed to align. Notably, the taste lacked authentic South Indian essence, and even the chutneys were uninspired. Portion sizes paled in comparison to influencer reels, and the much-touted Maha Bhog banana leaf was unavailable, echoing a prior disappointing encounter. Substituting with Navedyam 1 & 2, we found both quality and quantity lacking. Though I refrained from complaint due to familial company, disappointment lingered. While suitable for those unfamiliar with authentic South Indian cuisine, the establishment's name alone does not justify its quality. Furthermore, slow service and inflated pricing, double that indicated on Zomato, further marred our experience. Authenticity, portion consistency, transparent pricing, and efficient service are essential for any restaurant purporting to specialize in South...
