We decided to start with the delicious spinach and cheese soup, which is served with freshly baked naan bread. The soup is creamy and bursting with flavors, and the naan bread is soft and fluffy, the perfect accompaniment to the soup.

Read moreWe were 2 people and we went in one afternoon in July when we found the restaurant rather empty, so we knew service would be good which it was, a contrast to what many of the reviews seem to say.
Coming to the food, I became a big fan of Kashmiri Wazwan on my last year's visit to Kashmir and have tried multiple items, either in a platter or individually, at small roadside restaurants as well as bigger ones. It was however, my first time in Mughal Darbar.
And I have to admit, I enjoyed my food to the last bite. We had ordered the the Small Plate for one person and trust me, it is more than enough for two people.
Devoured the Tabak Maaz and my favorite, as always ways Gostaba - I really like the yogurt since items like Rogan Josh can get a bit spicy and spice tolerance is pretty low tbh. Honestly, a must try if you're visiting Kashmir and looking for authentic Wazwan, although most Kashmiris would tell you that the most authentic Wazwan can only be enjoyed in a Kashmiri wedding. However, the closest probably you'll get at this restaurant.
However, for desert we ordered the Firni which I did not like. I was warned the base would be different from the ones in Kolkata which is the Mughlai style yellowish creamy ones but this Mughal Darbar one turned out to be pretty bad taste wise. Not recommended at all.
The only thing I didn't like was how the waiter was too upfront about tips even though we added some extra amount as tip while paying online. He wanted more, a gesture that did not sit well with me.
It's a problem with Kashmir in general too, everyone just wants you to pay something extra for their service, even after you have already decided on a price. Would never understand how they are cool with asking for...
