A shop which is trying to establish itself as a go-to stop for South Indian food in Ranchi, but they are far from being that.
To cite an example, on my maiden visit to this shop,a couple of days earlier, I had rawa masala dosa. OK in overall taste, the dosa was crisp, the filling was a tad too slimy but manageable, coconut chutney was good, sambhar was average, apparently made out of readymade sambhar powder.
And then the tomato chutney, it was stale, shocking, I called the chef and told him as well. In fact, this chutney serves as a benchmark for freshness being followed at any South Indian food shop, it has a short shelf life and unless it is really fresh, well,it'll turn stale within no time.
I had searched on Google for the best South Indian food in Ranchi, this cafe came up on top, as per the ratings. But I have all the doubt about the genuineness of these ratings.
Honestly, this can't be the best South Indian food shop in Ranchi. And though this shop has a potential for betterment, in the present shape and standard, it simply doesn't deserve more than a three star rating.
Apart from those reviewers who are "friendly" to the shop, I would appeal to all other reviewers to be impartial and objective in their ratings/reviews,in order to help...
Read moreI was having one of the toughest days of my life — abandoned by my parents, running around hospitals and government offices in Ranchi trying to retrieve my lost birth documents. After hours of being turned away, I stepped into Veeraswamy Café near the Collectorate just to grab a bite and use my laptop to figure out my next steps.
I ordered food and quietly sat down. While I was working on my laptop, a person who seemed to be the owner, wannabe gangster guy walked over and, instead of showing the slightest bit of empathy or respect, said: “Do you think this is an office? Just finish your food and leave.”
It was shocking and humiliating. This is supposed to be a café — a place where people can sit, breathe, and work. I wasn’t being disruptive or taking up space without ordering. I was just trying to get through my day with a bit of dignity.
The café was overpriced and the attitude was inhumane. If you can’t treat people with basic respect — especially someone clearly going through something — you shouldn't be running a business that deals...
Read moreWhile most of Ranchi was shut today on account of Holi, ordered a mix of South Indian (Vada Sambhar) and North Indian (Chole Bhature) fare, to suit the palate of mine as well as my husband who hails from the South of India.
I must say that we were more than pleasantly surprised on the quality of food and the attention to detail that was provided by the restaurant for an in house order through a delivery app. The Bhaturas we're done to perfection , fluffy and minimal traces of oil. However, the show stopper was the Vada Sambhar, which tasted as unique as having breakfast in Chennai. The vadas we're crisp and well done with no oil residue and a generous helping of chilli's. What really impressed the palate of my South Indian husband is the typical tadka in the chutney and the incorporation of ladies fingers (bhendi) in the Sambhar which is rare to find in the most authentic of restaurants even in South India
A big big shout out to the chef and the management team as well, from a very happy and satiated customer....
