The hidden gem of Kannur. This visually unspectacular eatery at Prabhath Junction, Kannur delivers big time on its food though. They have breakfast and lunch service on all days a week except Sunday.

They serve traditional Kerala breakfast including wheat puttu. Fish curries and tawa fried fish is available for breakfast itself.

What really sets this place apart is the lunch and it's seafood accompaniments. The freshness of the seafood is a guarantee and it's cooked to perfection. Though there is a good coating of masala on the fish fry, the fish is so well cooked that it remains moist and soft inside and you are able to taste the fish along with the spices. They serve all kinds of fish and shell fish according to availability. The muru (oyster) fry there is very good and I haven't been able to find it anywhere else in Kannur.

The lunch spread is also very good with the sambar and fish curry being top notch. I have never tried their biryani, but then again why would you want to, amidst the wealth of all that wonderful seafood.

The place is very pocket friendly also with an average spend per head of around 200-225 for a lunch and a serving of fried fish, which gets you premium fish dishes for which you would probably have to dish out around Rs. 500/- in fancy restaurants.

All in all a spot which if experienced once will keep on pulling you back.

NB: Expect a good crowd and waiting for you tables in the aisles during the lunch hour. Also people don't come here for...

Kannur has no shortage of seafood joints, but my recent stop at Ananda Bhavan felt like discovering a hidden gem. What impressed me most was the balance between quality, taste, and overall dining experience.

The seafood here speaks for itself – fresh, generously portioned, and cooked with just the right amount of masala. The king fish fry was crisp outside yet soft inside, the mussels and oysters had that perfect coastal punch, and the prawns were addictive enough to make me order a second round. Even the fish eggs were fried beautifully, something you don’t often get this right elsewhere.

But it’s not just about seafood. The vegetarian accompaniments were equally delightful – rich sambhar, tangy pachadi, and side dishes that felt like they came straight from a homely kitchen. Add in chilled buttermilk and a payasam that could easily pass as the star of the meal, and you’ve got a spread that satisfies on every level.

Service was quick, courteous, and genuinely warm, and I noticed the place was neat and well-kept right down to the washrooms – a detail that matters.

In short, Ananda Bhavan isn’t just another fish place; it’s a restaurant where every item on the plate feels thoughtfully prepared. A must-try spot in Kannur for anyone who wants a fulfilling,...

Nestled in the heart of Kannur, Hotel Ananda Bhavan is a cherished culinary spot known for its authentic coastal flavors and warm hospitality. Whether you're a local or a traveler passing through, this restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience, especially for seafood lovers. Their fish fry is a standout dish—crispy on the outside, succulent inside, and infused with rich spices that reflect Kerala’s signature taste.

The meals served here are generously portioned and balanced, with a variety of accompaniments that enhance the overall flavor profile. From tangy fish curries to comforting sambar and flavorful rice, each plate is a celebration of homestyle cooking. What sets Ananda Bhavan apart is its wide selection of fish—you can pick from fresh catches like sardine, mackerel, kingfish, and more, each prepared with care. The restaurant maintains high standards of cleanliness, which adds to the comfort and appeal. The space is well-ventilated and spacious, making it ideal for families and groups. It’s conveniently located and easy to spot, making accessibility a breeze for first-time visitors.

Kannur is known for some fantastic seafood restaurants. However when it comes to the best among them, my vote will go to ‘Ananda Bhavan’ .. Have been hearing about it for a while and finally got a chance to visit today. We had meals along with a variety of sea food items including Ayakoora (king fish) fry, kalummakaya (mussels) fry, muru (oyster) fry, kalanchi (sea bass) fry, prawns fry, meen mutta (fish egg) fry etc. Each one of them, with its flavour, masala and perfectly done frying, is equally mouth watering. If you love seafood, don’t think twice before you pay a visit here .. Another highlight is the vegetarian part of this largely fish centric meals. The sambhar, pachadi, and vegetarian side dishes were simply fantastic. Honestly with the prior experience of veg items in restaurants famous for fish/non veg, I did not expect vegetarian section to be this tasty. Finally as an icing on the cake, there was a soothingly tasty buttermilk and a super yummy payasam to finish off proceedings .. What more you need .. The servers were all super courteous and very energetic. The toilet is very neat and tidy as well. All in all as Ustad once told to Faisy, the lunch here filled our stomach as well as our mind ..

Anand Bhawan Restaurant: A Seafood Lover's Paradise If you're in Kannur and craving a truly authentic local dining experience, Anand Bhawan Restaurant is a must-visit. This traditional multi-cuisine eatery is renowned for its delicious lunch spread, featuring a mouthwatering variety of fish fries. Starting your day early? Anand Bhawan has you covered with a satisfying breakfast menu available from 7 AM. Whether you're in the mood for a classic South Indian breakfast or something a bit more Western, you'll find plenty of options to choose from. While there's no dinner service, Anand Bhawan's lunch is the real star of the show. The fish fries are simply incredible, especially the King Fish and Mussels. The flavors are fresh, the preparation is spot-on, and the portions are generous. It's no wonder why Anand Bhawan is so popular among locals. The restaurant's warm and welcoming atmosphere, combined with its delicious food, makes it a must-try for anyone visiting Kannur.

I just fell for the kallumaka, yes I felt hard for it 💚💚 Visited this Ananda bhavan restaurant during my Kannur trip on May '23. Peakly crowded during the lunch time, took me almost 15 mins to get a seat 😐 I tried their Fish curry meals, ayakoora meen fry and the very famous kallumaka fry. Ayakoora was soft and spongy with slight high spiced masalas pushing up a notch. Kallumaka fry was cooked skillfully and spices were just playing along with it seamlessly. It was quite difficult to find this restaurant as it was hidden inside a complex. Do ask the locals when finding the restaurant 🤙 One disappointing thing was the quantity of food they servce. It was very low compares to their exaggerating prices. 👎👎 Also, the space and ambience was too congested 🥵 that there was no walking space left around. Totally hectic. Thus far a good restaurant appreciated by the people of Kannur. Sure you can go for it ❤️ Seer
