Hotel Poornima is a longstanding, highly regarded vegetarian restaurant in Karwar, particularly known for breakfast and creative desserts, with several positive customer reviews and a loyal local following. "Gudbud" and other ice creams are a major draw. Visiting Hotel Poornima for ice cream is considered a must among both locals and visitors. Poornima has its own ice cream brand, with a menu featuring various cup and cone flavors, sundaes, and Gudbud—a much-loved fruit and jelly layered ice cream dessert. Gobi manchurian, chole batura, and buns bhaji, traditional South Indian breakfast items—idli, vada, dosa, puri bhaji, buns, chow chow bath, and North Indian dishes are popular here. This is a modest and budget-friendly restaurant, with simple seating and a homely feel—it resembles the old-school type of eateries, run mostly by women. The restaurant’s central setting makes it especially convenient for tourists and locals exploring Karwar. However, be prepared for street parking, and expect basic but homely surroundings focused more on the food than high-end ambiance...
Read moreI was really excited on hearing that Hotel Poornima re-opened. Amazingly rebuilt, the interiors are beautiful with a long stretch of place, amazing furniture with cleaner wash basins and washing area. To be honest Hotel Poornima has been a famous hotel in Karwar for years. The breakfast served here is damn delicious. But I am absolutely disappointed at the type of food that served today. My order was Buns Bhaji - the buns were full of oil and hard, with no taste. To my utter surprise my friend found a caterpillar in the bhaji, which was disgusting. We complained to the owner immediately and he assured us that he will look after it at the earliest. I'm completely disappointed with the kind of service this hotel is providing presently. It's a disgrace. However I would like to pay another visit and this time I'm really looking forward for better food and better service - I'm taking this chance because this hotel has been serving amazing food for many years.
Hoping for better...
Read moreI have explored the Abhiruchi restaurant (next to the Premier Residency) and it's bad. After that experience, Poornima was a delight. This restaurant is recommended to me by a local techie Pranav Kurdekar.
My observations: Clean Light Courtesy of the staff makes one comfortable Freshly prepared food (I had breakfast Neer dosa) Morning walkers are regulars here.
My order: Neer dosa. Price : INR 50 Details : Neer = water and dosa = crepe. Neer dosa is served with the local Veg vatana & batata sabzi bhaji. Vatana = a variety of peas Batata = potato. I had lovely flavours which burst in my mouth. Coconut chutney comes in a vati. Vati = tiny bowl. The refill for these two seemed unlimited. It's very filling breakfast.
Feedback: The hand washing room can be cleaned and well lit. Currently, it's used to store things and doesn't have any lights.
The whole experience made me happy and satisfied.
I am going again for the South Indian thali (Jowar chi roti) at...
