I recently visited Kerala from my home in California and I was hungering for some traditional Malayali fare. Hasi's Kitchen was highly recommended to me, so I decided to pay it a visit. The waitstaff were polite and quite prompt in seating us. The ambiance of the space was inviting and fun. There was a helpful "today's specials" card, along with the menu. The menu was simple, yet somehow extensive at the same time, in a way that was balanced. I ordered an Arrowroot milk to start, which was just the right amount of sweetness to prepare my palate for what was to come. I was recommended to try the Chicken Biriyani, Chicken Fry and Beef Fry. The biriyani was rich and flavorful, one of the best biriyanis I have tasted to date. The Chicken Fry was spicy and cooked to perfection. The beef was a little chewy but it was quite fun to eat. The main event was recommended to me by one of the waitresses, the Podzhi Porota. I chose the beef option. I received two porotas with beef curry in between, all wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed. I absolutely loved this dish, and finished the whole thing myself. For dessert I had a brownie with ice cream, and sampled the tender coconut pudding. The brownie was presented quite well (pictured) and tasted as good as it looked. The pudding was presented quite well also, and was quite tasty as well. I definitely recommend both. All in all, Hasi's Kitchen was exactly what I was looking for, traditional Malayali food in a welcoming setting. Everything I ate I would absolutely eat again, and recommend others to try. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Good place for sharing a meal with your loved ones.... Mutton biryani was tasty, good quantity but had a measly piece of mutton in a big bowl of rice, beef fry was tasty too but again quantity was too little... Ceylon porotta was well prepared... Both pineapple and toffee pudding were well prepared.... Very caring service and good ambience ... But when you go to wash your hands all that ambience goes down the drain, piles of garbage, soggy tissue papers all around the wash basin... Poor maintenence where it actually matters... 2nd Visit ( edit to old review) - this time when I went to Hasi's, the wash area was clean and well maintained... Tried the Mutton varaval, ceylon porotta, Pineapple and tender coconut pudding... All were good and well prepared... Kudo to Hasi's for keeping up their reputation.

I recently had a meal at this restaurant and it didn’t meet my expectations. I initially wanted to order a Veg Cutlet, but they informed me it was unavailable and offered a Samosa as a substitute, only for me to discover it was stuffed with chicken. This made it feel like a predominantly non-vegetarian restaurant, especially since no other vegetarian snacks were available. I ended up trying Unnakaya, which was decent, and Puttu with Kadala Curry. While the Puttu was good, the Kadala Curry was not very impressive. I also had Paal Kappa and Gobi 65, which was okay in taste. The Elaneer Pudding was just average and didn’t seem worth the price. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, particularly for vegetarians.

The ambience was nice for a town like Palakkad. Nothing spectacular. The selection in the menu was simple, very few dishes. It's very crowded during peak hours so you can expect fresh food.

The water didn't taste that great, I hope they use a proper water filter or use mineral water. I asked the staff for what song was playing and he didn't get back to me as promised. Let me tell you another story of what happened.

I ask the waiter if they serve any gravy with the parota (most restaurants serve a plain gravy with any bread item like chappati or parota, like a no frills Kurma). He explains clearly that they don't. So I ask him what gravy fish he recommends with parota. So he suggests chicken masala as a good option, I ask about quantity and he explains that its meant for a single person and since I came with a friend, he suggests I get a Mutton Kurma and a chicken masala. Since we both weren't that hungry we only go for the chicken masala.

Lol the food arrives and it's a dry dish, I have seen chicken masala being a gravy in lots of restaurants! I was wrong to assume it was a gravy dish... But I'm sad the waiter did not connect the dots and warn me that it's a dry item. He seemed to be overworked since there weren't enough waiters for the crowded restaurant.

I ended up getting the mutton kurma since we both wanted some liquid dish too. The mutton kurma was not spicy, had a coconut base I think, lots of potato's and a single large piece of mutton. The chicken masala was actually really tasty, many pieces and is enough for 2 people if they eat to feel that perfect full.

The parota was great, the staff was overall friendly if a bit distracted. The food arrives very quickly. Overall I'd just recommend a single try to...
