A Disappointing First and Last Visit to Hotel Annapoorna
For the past three weeks, my family and I have been dining at a nearby hotel (Hotel Gowrikrishna) three times a week. On our usual route, Hotel Annapoorna always caught our attention with its bright lights and inviting ambiance. So, we decided to give it a try.
But as the saying goes, all that glitters is not gold. Unfortunately, our experience was a letdown.
First Impressions & Seating == When we arrived, the restaurant was crowded, and we had to wait over 10 minutes for a table for four. While Annapoorna has slightly better seating capacity and a clean, hygienic wash area, space was still a concern.
Food Experience == We ordered Battoora (Rs. 110 x 4) and Sambar Vada (Rs. 37 x 4). I initially wanted Curd Vada, but they didn’t have it, so I settled for Sambar Vada instead.
Sambar Vada: Generous amount of thick sambar and tasted good. No complaints. Battoora: Large and fluffy, but the Channa curry was tasteless. To make things worse, I found a dead fly in the curd onion salad! I immediately informed the waiter, who just took it away - no apology, no concern. Waiter's Behavior: When we mentioned the curry lacked taste, he casually scratched his ear and gestured towards our food. It was accidental, but unhygienic and unsettling.
Seeing our dissatisfaction, he brought Masala (Poori Masala) and Kuruma, but those too lacked flavor. My mom and wife left half their Battoora on the plate, which says a lot about the taste.
Drinks & Final Blow == We wanted Mint Tea, but they didn’t have it. We then asked for Black Tea or Black Coffee, but surprisingly, neither was available! They only served Milk Tea & Milk Coffee. Not in the mood for cold beverages, we reluctantly ordered Milk Coffee (Rs. 25 x 4) - which, thanks to the excessive sugar, was the **only thing that tasted good.
Final Verdict == Our total bill was Rs. 722, and though they accept card payments (unlike Gowrikrishna), that was the only highlight. When I shared my feedback with the Manager/Biller after making the payment, he showed zero courtesy - no apology, no assurance of improvement, nothing. That level of negligence sealed the deal: this was our first and last visit.
Pros: ✔️ Hygienic surroundings (kitchen quality unknown) ✔️ Good ambiance ✔️ A/C dining available (first floor) ✔️ Clean wash area ✔️ Accepts card payments
Cons: ❌ Tasteless curries ❌ Staff’s unapologetic attitude ❌ Limited dining space ❌ No parking
If you’re considering a visit, lower your expectations. Annapoorna may look good from the outside, but inside, it’s a different story.
I hope the team takes the necessary steps to improve next time....
