A Disappointing First and Last Visit to Hotel Annapoorna

For the past three weeks, my family and I have been dining at a nearby hotel (Hotel Gowrikrishna) three times a week. On our usual route, Hotel Annapoorna always caught our attention with its bright lights and inviting ambiance. So, we decided to give it a try.

But as the saying goes, all that glitters is not gold. Unfortunately, our experience was a letdown.

First Impressions & Seating == When we arrived, the restaurant was crowded, and we had to wait over 10 minutes for a table for four. While Annapoorna has slightly better seating capacity and a clean, hygienic wash area, space was still a concern.

Food Experience == We ordered Battoora (Rs. 110 x 4) and Sambar Vada (Rs. 37 x 4). I initially wanted Curd Vada, but they didn’t have it, so I settled for Sambar Vada instead.

Sambar Vada: Generous amount of thick sambar and tasted good. No complaints. Battoora: Large and fluffy, but the Channa curry was tasteless. To make things worse, I found a dead fly in the curd onion salad! I immediately informed the waiter, who just took it away - no apology, no concern. Waiter's Behavior: When we mentioned the curry lacked taste, he casually scratched his ear and gestured towards our food. It was accidental, but unhygienic and unsettling.

Seeing our dissatisfaction, he brought Masala (Poori Masala) and Kuruma, but those too lacked flavor. My mom and wife left half their Battoora on the plate, which says a lot about the taste.

Drinks & Final Blow == We wanted Mint Tea, but they didn’t have it. We then asked for Black Tea or Black Coffee, but surprisingly, neither was available! They only served Milk Tea & Milk Coffee. Not in the mood for cold beverages, we reluctantly ordered Milk Coffee (Rs. 25 x 4) - which, thanks to the excessive sugar, was the **only thing that tasted good.

Final Verdict == Our total bill was Rs. 722, and though they accept card payments (unlike Gowrikrishna), that was the only highlight. When I shared my feedback with the Manager/Biller after making the payment, he showed zero courtesy - no apology, no assurance of improvement, nothing. That level of negligence sealed the deal: this was our first and last visit.

Pros: ✔️ Hygienic surroundings (kitchen quality unknown) ✔️ Good ambiance ✔️ A/C dining available (first floor) ✔️ Clean wash area ✔️ Accepts card payments

Cons: ❌ Tasteless curries ❌ Staff’s unapologetic attitude ❌ Limited dining space ❌ No parking

If you’re considering a visit, lower your expectations. Annapoorna may look good from the outside, but inside, it’s a different story.

I hope the team takes the necessary steps to improve next time....

That cashier cum manager staff ( black skin colour tamilian)still think that we are all here for annadanam (free food offering). This is the way he deals we customers particularly if you are solo.He desperately needs the exact change. 110 rupees for rice meal lunch. The Supplier staffs are always in harsh and constipated looking face ( particularly the old staffs). Even for an extra glass of hot water they are showing this angry bird mode. They don't like to give anything extra.A teenage boy was eating next to me asked for an extra pappad( appalam) and the boy supplier staff said " that will be charged extra"and the boy said its okay charge me.Meals coupon should be purchased before sitting in the dining hall.Only two wash basin and the toilet is upstairs on the first floor it's a hard deal for old people and women. It's a small space dining hall with a big kitchen it's harder to pass through to reach the wash basin and back to your seat. You have to deal with the cleaning staffs, serving staffs and customers. Food is really good particularly the lunch is a good deal for 110 rupees you get cabbage thoran, avial, kootu or theeyal (sometimes pacchadi), pickle, payasam ,curd , fried chillies with two types of rice options Chembavu or white rice ( tamilnadu...

This is the best place to eat all your three times meal if you are a pure vegetarian. Located just outside (approx 300 mtrs) the West entrance of the Padmanabha Swamy Temple this is in the main market area too and hence always expect a wait time of 20-30 mins minimum.

Parking for two wheeler is available on the street, 4 wheeler is a little struggle.

Place serves authentic kerala food, must try their Kerala porotta with the Korma, Mysore dosa, Paneer crispy.

Besides south indian, place also serves quite good variety of the north India food too.

You can start your day with some decent breakfast and a cup of coffee, if you are in the same area get the south Indian lunch and for dinner you can try combination of north indian and south indian food.

Service is quick, prices are reasonable. Place has both AC and non AC section. However, AC section is at the first floor hence elderly will struggle a bit.

Only problem is if you are a SOLO then they will be little reluctant to give you a whole table of 4. So you can ask them or others to allow you to...

A good restaurant but if there is a crowd the staff are messing up like delay in table cleaning, serving and the stairs to first floor is too narrow. Have been here thrice had items like Poori bhajji, Meals, Masala dosa, ghee Dosa overall good but during last visit chewed small stones in the medhu vada looks like the urad dal was not cleaned properly. The price of items were also on the ok side. The restaurant was recently renovated so all the lightings, sinks looks fresh. My kid forgot his shades on the table a staff from the restaurant came all the way to west nada to hand it over. Thanks for the courtesy

Regular here , a very good option for veg lovers and those visiting the padmanabha temple. The cooks are very proficient especially North Indian dishes. The lower level is non AC with limited seating , the upper level is full AC with better seating . Very difficult to find seating during peak times. For takeaway, if you are planning during peak hours then order well in advance. It takes around 20- 30 minutes ( between 7 pm to 9:pm) Also try avoiding parotta at night, it was a bit uncooked
