The shop opening time was 3 pm and we reached there 10 mins before following google maps from our stay. This was the only decent rated restaurant nearby. So here's my experience. The shop which seemed to be a family business has a small opening like the old shop back in days and looks more like someone's home. The gate was half closed as it was still 10 mins to 3pm. We tried to go in and asked the owner if it is open. Owner was pretty old and the reply we got was it would open at 3. On request he allowed us in and let us sit. We thought we could ask for food now and asked for medu Wada to eat as it was prepared already. However we were ignored and the server who seemed like to be from the family waved hand at us asking to wait. I was astonished to all this and this was something new. Finally it was 3 and they came to us to take orders. I ordered one special masala dosa and one bonda which i don't know the name of, it was made with rice and some corn in it. The rice bonda was something new to me and it was nice crisp from outside. You could fill the texture of rice and some daal, it was nice. Then comes the special masala dosa!! Dosa was nicely made in ghee with some patato masala which was mixed with something white and grainy in texture. I loved the chutneys and the dosa was heavy enough with all that ghee and masala to make you feel full. Sambar was nice too. This definitely wasn't the masala dosa you have in TN. My friend ordered rava dosa and medu vada which was good too. Overall it was an amazing experience eating in a shop which seems to be there for decades!! When we were paying at the counter, we asked the old man how old the shop is. He said 1951 and I was amazed to see a family business holding on this long. That's the end of it. Cheers!! Edit: The rice bonda i mentioned is karavada which the shop...
Read moreBy sheer luck, I stumbled upon Venkadesha Bhavan when all the other restaurants were packed. My quest for a vegetarian restaurant for dinner led me here, and I must say, it turned out to be a delightful find. I decided to try their ghee roast, and oh boy, it exceeded my expectations. The taste was heavenly, with a tantalizing aroma of ghee that heightened my dining experience. The accompanying side dishes such as sambar and chutney were equally delicious, adding a burst of flavors to the meal.
I also indulged in their unique coffee, which was a first for me. To my surprise, the coffee was served in a cup, while the saucer held the milk. This innovative presentation added a touch of novelty to the dining experience.
The ambiance, though not remarkable, was decent. Despite their efforts to keep it clean, the high crowd volume made it challenging to maintain cleanliness effectively. Nevertheless, despite being bustling with activity, the service was remarkably prompt.
The wash area, unfortunately, did not meet my cleanliness expectations, as the constant rush kept it from being well-maintained. The restaurant has two floors, and I dined on the lower level. However, I found it to be quite congested, which slightly dampened the overall experience.
Parking was a significant hurdle, as the street was incredibly busy, making it difficult to find a suitable spot nearby. Nonetheless, considering the quality of the food and the swift service, I would highly recommend Venkadesha Bhavan. It may not boast the best ambiance or the cleanest wash area, but their flavorsome dishes make up for it, especially if you're looking for a satisfying...
