Salmon Vizhijom offers a seafood feast that truly tantalizes the taste buds, and their standout dishes include Grilled Fish, Fried Prawns, Mussels(kakka), and Fish Egg Fry etc. Here’s a closer look at these delectable offerings:
Grilled Fish The Grilled Fish at Salmon Vizhijom is a masterpiece of culinary simplicity and flavor. Marinated in a blend of herbs and spices, the fish is grilled to perfection, maintaining its juiciness and tenderness. The subtle smokiness from the grill enhances the natural taste of the fish, making it a standout dish. Served with a side of seasonal vegetables and a zesty lemon butter sauce, it’s a must-try for seafood enthusiasts. We tried Hamur fish, other varieties are also available like(Pomfret, red snapper etc)
Fried Prawns The Fried Prawns are a delightful treat, crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. Coated in a light, seasoned batter, these prawns are fried to a golden brown, providing a perfect crunch with every bite. Ideal as an appetizer or a main course, these prawns are a favorite among regulars.
Mussels(Kakka) The kakka fry also a must try item there, we got slightly small kakkas, overall the dish was really mouth watering
Fish Egg Fry
I personally didn't like this, got a feel that few were not really fresh

Each dish( I feel except fish egg) is crafted with care, highlighting the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Happened to go there last night (21/12) at the insistence of a dear friend and family that had come from Australia. My quick thoughts on the food, service; the general ambience and feel. Had Hamour grilled, prawn roast, pomfret (avoli/akoli) fried, Mussel fried (kallumeykaa), Porotta, Appam, the gravies and onion salad. We were 5 of us!
Food review:
Service: please make your conclusions after reading. They served 10 coin porottas initially, so small that it was over in a couple or three minutes. We were kept waiting for nearly 25 minutes before they served the next few. When this happens the shop MUST provide food at their cost rather than further exploiting the customer by selling more dishes (didn’t fall into that trap). I told the guy that this was unacceptable! He was apologetic but that wasn’t good enough.
Ambience: okay, a little more elaborate than the nearby shacks. I did miss the ability to select my own fish, with my hand and eyes. The nearby ones does it and I enjoy that!
Overall feel: just okay, nothing special, service needs massive improvement, food can improve too. An overall rating of 3 or...
Read moreI made a special trip to Vizhinjam based on its reputation, and it largely lived up to the hype.
What we tried:
Hamour Fry: An excellent choice! The fish was meaty, flaky, and perfectly seasoned. The coating was crisp without being oily.
Velameen Fry (Queenfish / Leatherskin Fry): This was the star of the show for me. The local Velameen (Queenfish) has a distinct, firm texture and a fantastic flavor that was enhanced by the masala rub. Highly recommend!
Prawns Roast: The prawns were juicy, fresh, and cooked in a delicious, spicy gravy.
Sides: We paired everything with Coin Parotta, Appam, and Puttu. Each bread perfectly complemented the dishes—the parotta for scooping up the prawn fry, the appam for a soft contrast to the fries, and the puttu for a traditional touch.
The fries are served simply with a sprinkle of chilli flakes and sliced onions, which cuts through the richness beautifully.
A wonderful surprise was the complimentary Sulaimani tea at the end. This light, spiced black tea was the perfect digestif and a refreshing finish to the meal.
A small heads-up: The place is incredibly popular and almost always packed. Be prepared for a slightly longer waiting period for both a table and your food. The service, while polite, can feel a bit slow due to the rush. I'd recommend visiting slightly off-peak hours if...
