Indian, Lebanese, Iranian, Continental, Chinese and Arabian cuisines combine at the Olive Restaurant, but at a higher price to pay. The space, heretofore occupied by Khasak Restaurant, was outdone by Olive about a year back.
Tucked away ingeniously from the blaring city, the natural décor smartly disguises the diner from its neighbourhood, outshining its counterparts by splendidly wreathing its patios in green. The property is veiled up with tall and stout bamboo stalks. The edges of the spread are rich in topiary, hedges, ferns and flowering shrubs. The copper and bronze relics squiggled into the overgrown vine thickets, the putting turfed strips, the sinuous water channels crisscrossing the stone causeways and the soul-stirring music swell up the vibe.
Gorgeous Cabanas are sublimely squirmed into the green pockets for groups of four and six. Make sure to grab one of those on your dine in. Indoor dining is also available for around 60 people. The desks and chairs are not ergonomic and throws one of one’s groove. But the ambience recovers the loss.
The food is, uncompromisingly, spot on savoury. The Aami’s JoJo Kebab is 7 boneless chicken chops of succulent pieces char-grilled in Lebanese bravura- a specialty tip of the iceberg. The beef Idiyirachi, beaten up meat sautéed in dense gravy paste, is a palatable highlight. The ghee-roast Chicken, diced pieces dry-roasted in a thick dressing, is pungent in flavour. The aromatic bamboo Biriyani is baked in a bamboo shoot. The Kunz Ilaneer Pudding, tender coconut slices stewed in a condensed milk custard, is the wind-up cherry topping.
As mouth-watering as every dish is, the price is the road-kill factor. The charges are jacked up to just about double of what would cost you in a conventional restaurant. Given that the charming environment, the amiable mood, and the chivalrous service created by the entrepreneur are hidden extra payables, the prices are, even so, over the roof. The sous-chef put in plain words that they import their spices and seasonings from across borders which upsurges the cost. They do that to rigorously deliver the definitive flavour.
So, from a consumer’s standpoint, the price is a substantial bargain for great food. So stopover the place as a one-timer to see whether or not it would pull you in for a...

Read moreIts not about the food or ambience because we never got a chance to get to that point. Attitude of the staff and policy of the restaurant (if at all any) with respect to the seating arrangement and attitude towards the customers is my concern. It was my wedding anniversary and went to Olive with my kid and spouse. Its was a Thursday evening and the hardly 2-3 other families were dining at that point. As it was a special occasion we preferred a seat out in the courtyard (huts) and not inside area from where we already dinner a long time ago and did not appreciate it much at that point it self . There were couple of staffs waiting at the reception area and as soon as we expressed our interest to sit in the open , they told its not possible if the head count is 3 and we will have to take a seat inside. I really understand if it was a peak hour/day as there could be more families/ larger group coming. But in this case literally 90% of the seats outside were vacant. As its Thu evening I do not think even they were expecting the outside seats to get filled so fast. Keeping all that aside , it was the attitude of the staff that bothered me the most. They did not even say that the outside seats were reserved or they are expecting it to get filled but just bluntly told for 3pax courtyard seat is not available. Even when we were about to leave by saying that we preferred outside seat , they did not even bother to make a counter offer or ask anything else. I did not utter a word and just left the place. To let loose a customer so easily , I am not sure what kind if a customer service they are providing. I have read about similar experiences in many of the social media platforms and now had to face it myself. Its high time these type of restaurants change...
