I recently had a very disappointing experience at Uduppi Saravana Bhavan Hotel in Alappuzha. While the food was passable and somewhat okay in taste, the customer service was truly the worst I have ever come across in a restaurant.
From the very beginning, the staff showed no interest in welcoming or assisting customers. There was no basic courtesy like greeting or guiding us to a table. We had to call repeatedly just to get someone’s attention for even small things like water or the menu card. The service was extremely slow, and when food was finally served, there was no politeness or professionalism in their approach. It felt as though they were doing us a favor instead of treating us as paying customers.
Although the food was average and just about edible, it certainly did not live up to the name or reputation that the restaurant tries to carry. The dishes lacked freshness and flavor, and while not outright bad, they were nothing special either. With food being only okay, the least one would expect is good hospitality to make up for it. Unfortunately, that was completely missing here.
Another issue was the lack of cleanliness and attention to detail. Tables were not properly cleaned between customers, and we had to ask for basic things like tissues and drinking water multiple times. Such neglect creates a very poor dining experience overall.
For a restaurant located in a busy place like Alappuzha, where tourists and locals alike expect decent service, this was a huge letdown. Dining out is not just about food but also about the overall atmosphere, respect, and care that customers receive. Sadly, Uduppi Saravana Bhavan failed miserably in this aspect.
In conclusion, I would say that this hotel urgently needs to train its staff in customer service and improve its management standards. Even if the food is only okay, good service could have made the experience more pleasant. Unfortunately, the rude and careless attitude of the staff ruined it all. I personally would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent dining experience...
Read moreOur recent dinner experience at Saravana Bhavan was nothing short of exemplary, distinguishing itself not just through its classic cuisine, but through its truly dedicated customer service. We arrived right at the final minutes of their operating hours, a time when most restaurants are already locking the doors and winding down. Instead of being turned away, the staff welcomed us in with genuine warmth, setting a relaxed and accommodating tone for our entire meal. There was absolutely no feeling of being rushed or an imposition, which is a testament to the management and the service team's dedication. The Meal: Uncompromised Quality Despite the late hour, the food was freshly prepared and served piping hot. This was not 'closing time' food; this was a full, quality dining experience. The signature dishes, such as the Ghee Roast Dosa and the flavorful Vada Sambar, were crisp, perfectly textured, and delivered the authentic, consistent taste Saravana Bhavan is famous for. The accompanying chutneys—the vibrant coconut and the spicy tomato—tasted fresh, vibrant, and were clearly prepared recently. It proves that their commitment to quality doesn't waver, even at the end of a long shift. Final Verdict To find a restaurant that maintains such high standards of food preparation while offering such generous hospitality to late-arriving guests makes Saravana Bhavan stand out. This level of service transforms a simple meal into a memorable experience. We highly recommend them not only for their consistently delicious South Indian food but also for their genuine kindness and commitment to...
