Our first visit was quite disappointing. We reached there at around 10:30pm Ordered one of their premium sheeshas’ from the menu, they served it fast, maybe because they just had us and one other table occupied. But service is just terrible, especially the staffs attitude, they never came for a coal change. And as i have some experience handling hookahs, i was setting up the existing coal right, then comes the manager running out of nowhere just to insult us and says “you don’t do this here, we’re here to do this, you just smoke it, we will change the coal”, i was like “i called you guys 3 times and no-one showed up”, I was helpless other than serving myself, rather than choking to death. Well that aside, we ordered soups and they were salty as the Mediterranean, then comes two curries with breads, Chicken tikka masala and Ra-Ra chicken. We also ordered a lemon chilly kebab for starter, that arrived after the main course, frankly speaking, couldn’t find a difference between the two curries, tasted very similar, only difference was that the tikka masala had chicken tikka pieces and tasted a bit spicy than the other one. The lemon chilly kebab was dry and cold upon serving. Then comes this manager at around 11:00pm to say, “this is the last coal change, we won’t be changing it anymore”, infact it was working just fine at the moment, i never asked for a coal change in the first place, well, i choose not to react to his arrogant attitude and just ignored him. Just in a while a guy brings the bill along with a card swiping machine, i was like, we’re just having our dinner, I didn’t ask for the bill yet. They’re just keeping on insulting us, shooing us off. Well, never mind, i paid the bill too, then comes another guy and he’s like, “give me the hookah, it’s enough”, i was just done having my dinner and had just started enjoying the hookah, who is he to decide how long i sit there for something i just paid a really premium price. Trust me it wasn’t even 30mins since we got it on our table, he says “45mins is the time limit, it’s written in our menu”, and there were three staffs smoking half the tobacco in it for 15mins before serving it to us. You either tell the customer that there’s a 45mins time limit, or just be nice, say we’re about to close and sorry we won’t be able to serve you any longer, isn’t that the way you talk to a customer? What do you expect i study the whole menu to find out about their 45mins time limit? And what do they mean 45mins, 15mins for the staff and 30mins for us? And they have the audaci to charge ₹1200+₹100(ice base) for the sheesha, and lets not forget, I’m paying their premium price! I was like I’m just done having dinner, I’ll stick around for 10 more mins. Meanwhile the other guy swiping the bill amount was like, “you don’t listen to him, just take the sheesha away”, how rude is that? Well I’m just done with the insults, very rude and disrespectful for a restaurant with a premium pricing. Summarising it, it’s just not worth the trouble, sheesha is just average, flavour options are just basic, nothing special. Food is just below average, overpriced and quantity is just okay. Service is really really disappointing. I just want to see how long they stick around with this kind of arrogant attitude. Wouldn’t suggest this restaurant to my worst enemy. Literally nothing worth to go back again for! There’s way better restaurants serving wayy better food and sheeshas for much affordable prices with no “45mins” time limit written in the menu. Go for it if you want to get yourself insulted. What a waste of time and money. Really regret my decision overriding my friend’s warning not to...
Read moreThe best Arabic restaurant opened in Calicut recently ! Just when you head to custom’s road, you see a building which looks more like a house at the very turning of the junction ( where it was Kingsbay initially) The place is completely renovated and looks nothing like how it was before. Interiors are well done with warm lighting which makes a beautiful difference in the evening than during the day. Hence visit the place in the evenings for better ambience! Restaurant opens at 12:30 in the noon and thats when we decided to head for lunch. Being the first customers on a working day we could choose the table of our liking and decided to sit near the window where natural light streamed in directly. We ordered chicken mandhi , Bbq chicken and ended our meal with mildly sweet cheese kunafa . . . 🔸Chicken mandhi ₹395/- Good quantity of rice for 4 people ! Loved the flavour of both chicken and rice 👌🏼 it came with tomato dip and mayonnaise which blended with the rice well. Would definitely recommend if you’d like to have rice. That quantity of rice for 395/- is absolutely worth it ! We initially asked for mutton mandhi, as they don’t serve it in half portion had to settle for chicken mandhi which was not disappointing at all.
🔸Bbq chicken half ₹320/- Spicy and delicious! Half a chicken was served cut into 4 pieces. If you feel you’d like to have more chicken with mandhi rice then this is a perfect buy! Tastes perfect with mandhi rice. Came with mint chutney, mayo and veggies.
🔸 Cheese Kunafa ₹330/- Being not a fan of extremely sweet desserts wasnt keen on trying it but to my surprise, it was mildly sweet and tasted absolutely amazing ! Sooo good ! Honestly, couldnt stop eating it after the first bite. Expensive, yes. But worth a try. It dint look like a must’ve but as i said, it took me by surprise 😄 . . . Parking is definitely an issue here and roadside parking can be your...
Read moreHad visited Zaatar Restaurant located in Kozhikode for a family dinner last week. The place provides an authentic Middle Eastern dining experience. As soon as one enters, there is a display of the latest catch from the sea of the day, from which one can choose what is to be dined upon. The ambience is good, the feel is laid back and the staff were thoroughly professional and offered top notch service. Ordered food were delivered within the committed timeframe. There was no delay in finding a place for 10, even though we reached during peak business hrs and without any advance booking. This restaurant is famous for its Arabic, North Indian, and Chinese cuisines. Other well known dishes of Zaatar Restaurant include Leham Brisket, Tawa Platter and Al Najik Kebab. Although, the prices tend to be a little on the higher side, but the quality of food and portion size make the cost worth it.They also have a good collection of desserts and milkshakes and a wide variety of fruit juices, but the one who takes the lime light is the various flavors of Sulaimani in the offering. we tried cinnamon Sulaimani and it was such an awesome experience. There is also a separate chillout Hookah lounge on the first floor. The only issue that requires addressing on priority is about finding a parking spot in front of the restaurant. It can be quite a challenge during peak hours.
To conclude, Zaatar Restaurant is a great choice for everyone who is looking for wonderfully rich Middle Eastern food in Kozhikode. The distinct experience offered, keeps Zaatar at the top on providing one of the best dining experiences...
