I have purchased sweets many times from various branches of Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick. Iโve never had any complaints about the taste of their sweets โ theyโve always been excellent. Honestly, I never thought I would ever have to leave a negative review regarding their customer service. However, for the first time, my family wanted to try their baked mihidana, so as usual, I stopped by their Rajdanga Main Road outlet after work and bought 200 grams for them. Unfortunately, this time the experience was extremely disappointing.
The staff member at the counter served me from the last remaining portion in an almost-empty tray, while a fresh, full tray of baked mihidana was clearly visible in the display. Everyone knows that what sets baked mihidana apart from the traditional version is the custard layer on top. But what I received was nothing more than plain mihidana โ with no trace of custard.
When I politely requested that my portion be taken from the fresh tray, the staff still went ahead and served from the older one. If I had wanted plain mihidana, I couldโve easily purchased it from any local sweet shop for โน350โโน400 per kg. Why would anyone pay โน800 per kg at Balaram Mullick for the same thing โ without the baked custard layer?
Iโm attaching photos of what I received. Anyone can clearly see that there is no custard layer on top โ which defeats the entire purpose of buying baked mihidana.

First off they have more staff than customers but somehow manage to move at a snailโs pace. I was standing there waiting for my order while even the security guard was telling them to hurry up. But the people at the counter? Completely clueless, slow, and lazy. Most staff is just standing idle and moving around instead of doing anything. They have no idea how to treat customers or respect anyone's time. No wonder most patrons here are old people who have a lot of time on their hands. And then thereโs the payment process which is a complete joke. The counter where they take and pack your order won't take your payment. Instead they give you some stupid card and you have to go stand in a separate queue just to get it scanned and pay. I'm astonished they made the simple process of payment so complicated. And when you finally make it to the payment desk there are two people sitting there but only one person is "working" if you can even call it that because they're busy chilling and talking on the phone! Seriously this place operates like a government office not a sweet shop. They'd even put SBI to shame. Another funny thing about this establishment is instead of throwing out stale items they pack it neatly so they can hand it to delivery drivers of swiggy and zomato. I ordered some sandesh and went to pay / the amount was RS. 131 and I gave them a 500 note along with 1 Rupee and the lady attending to us was obnoxious and rude demanding change or else for us to pay via paytm. She was extremely rude and loud with my elderly mother who also didnโt have change . I live in America and am visiting and therefore have no access to Paytm on my USA phone number. I donโt for one minute believe that you run an establishment with such a high turnover and you donโt keep change ? Or you just want to harass the customers and ensure they never return ? I have been buying sandesh from Balaram since its inception and carrying it for my friends all over the world. But the experience that we had today at the shop was shocking . Both the ladies at the counter misbehaved and said that if we donโt have change there is no need to buy the Sandesh etc and belittled us in front of other customers. This is clearly unacceptable and I donโt think Mr Sudip Mullick will be very humoured by the way your lady cashiers were treating and talking to my elderly mother or just generally dealing with us .
