Chowman (Naktala) — Restaurant in Kolkata

After ordering over 20 times in the past 6–7 months, I can confidently say this place has mastered the art of decline — every order somehow manages to be worse than the last. At this point, they seem to believe that whatever they throw into a box qualifies as food.

My recent order of 13th April 2025 was perhaps thr most Miserable Experience, Highly Disappointing and my last with the branch!

This was hands down one of the worst food experiences I’ve had recently. I genuinely regret ordering from this place...and ruining my Sunday lunch

The Cantonese Noodles came in half the regular quantity, and even the container was half-empty. Clearly, they’re cutting corners without any regard for customer satisfaction.

The Garlic Fish Gravy had no garlic, no flavor – just a bland, overly sweet sauce pretending to be something it’s not.

The General Tso’s Chicken tasted identical to the fish dish – same sauce, same sweet nothingness – the only difference being they swapped fish for chicken and added a touch of calcium powder. It’s clear they’re recycling the same base for everything.

The Thai Mixed Fried Rice was falsely advertised – no chicken, no eggs, only a few prawns and a sad scattering of chopped vegetables and mushroom cubes to bulk it up. This is NOT what a mixed rice is supposed to be.

And to top it off – they never send proper condiments, no matter how clearly you mention it on the order form.

The worst part? They seem to have some internal manipulative matrix that prevents ratings below 2 stars on food apps – which is why their reviews don’t reflect how terrible the food truly is. It’s deceptive, misleading, and shows a complete lack of accountability.

I have pictures of this miserable excuse for a meal. This was not just bad food – it was insultingly bad. Please avoid this place if you value your money, your taste buds, and your trust in honest service.

I will request all food lovers with folded hands please do not order Chinese foods from Chowman Naktala outlet. The portion served from this outlet is just half in quantity. When I complained about the same, they simply denied it and refused to entertain me. The behaviour of the customer care person is very harsh and they are showing ownership. The food taste is very bad in this outlet. I would request all my Google friends and family members to avoid Chowman Naktala outlet as they are cheating the customers.

My second review : The matter of cheating was reported to the customer care. They did not listen to my complaint and simply denied with one or another pretexts. They wanted the picture of the items I claimed to have given half of the quantities. I shared the photo. To my utter surprise they rejected my claim without assigning any reason. This company named Chowman is cheating the customers. Please avoid ordering from Chowman. You will definitely get less quantity of food for sure. This way or that they are getting rich by cheating...

It was nice dinning experience at the place. We went on 14th Feb night but the service was upto the standards. We had,

Pepper Garlic Fish (Basa): Fish fillet tossed in a red sauce accompanied with diced bell peppers and onion. Tasted nice and the fish was soft and fresh. It contains 11 pieces. (4/5)

Chowman Special Fried Rice (Mixed): Nice reddish colour rice cooked with small cubed bell pepper, onion, mushroom, baby corn and other non veg acquaintances and topped with spring onion green. The taste was bit tangy and spicy. (4/5)

Tsing Hoi Chicken: This dish contains small chunks of chicken cooked in a red coloured gravy with cashew and bell pepper. This one is also mid spicy and well combined with the above rice. The quantity of chicken was pretty good. (4.5/5)
