Read moreCrab meat soup with egg drop - after a very long long time I had a crab meat soup that really ticked off all the boxes of being a perfect crab soup. The soup came securely packed in a plastic box and ample clingwrap covering the box. There was absolutely no spillage. The soup had loads of chunky crab meat, deliciously spices with whole red chili and ample egg drop. Seasoning was just perfect. crab soups are best when they have a good amount of spiciness and this soup was just made that way. it's a 5/5 for me. Crab meat rice - this was like a fried rice with crab meat. again I was very impressed by the amount of crab meat in the rice. very mildly flavored and perfect seasoning. some might feel it's a tad dry if eaten alone so you can pair it with a gravy dish of your choice, but for me it worked with the dry lamb chili as well. The amount of rice is more than enough for 1 person. since this was the first time I ever tasted a crab meat rice it was perfectly done as per my palate. Roasted Lamb chili - I had some apprehension that the lamb would be too chewy or maybe undercooked but my fears were put aside when I tasted the dish. perfectly cooked lamb with a thin coating on top tossed in a sticky spicy sauce with loads of green chilies and capsicum. The taste and flavors were on spot. Also the amount is sufficient for two people to share. again a 5/5 dish. overall all 3 dishes were superb and I was very happy...
Read moreAs per previous experience with Chowman( that was fair enough to repeat the outlet), We have visited Chowman on durga puja. But this time I was totally disappointed with every aspect, from quality of food to behaviour of staffs. We have ordered
1)Chowman special mixed fried rice - Quality was below average, prawns were not properly boiled, though it was mixed rice there was no presence of egg. 2)Hong Kong style fish( Bhetki) - full of tasteless gravy and the coating was very thick and fish was not fresh. 3)Hot garlic chicken- totally tasteless. 4)Drums of heaven- Not as expected, overcooked. 5)Fish paper salt(Bhetki)- only this item was acceptable as per taste.
After waiting for more than 1.5 hours (although the wait is acceptable and adjustable during Durga Puja) I did not expect this kind of deterioration of the food. They even placed all the food 10 minutes after ordering which questioned the freshness of the food (as per my guess, it was already prepared). Prices have also been increased for puja. The staff said we have to order all at once (which means we can't order anymore). And the staff was in a hurry. They were constantly asking if we were done or not, so they could rap quickly (indirectly telling to quite the table).
This is my second visit to Chowman. Didn't expect such degradation of brand name. I have to think thrice to visit ...
