Lee Eating House has recently gained attention on social media. I went there around 12 pm for brunch when other places had stopped serving breakfast. I ordered only their specialty items.
Steam Wonton Noodle Pork @ Rs.100 (5/5) Unlike most places in China Town, the wontons weren't very juicy, but somehow the taste was fabulous. Undoubtedly, one of the best Wonton Noodles I've ever tried.
Garlic Noodle Pork @ Rs.150 (3/5) The noodles were the same but without wontons and with the raw flavor of garlic. As the garlic wasn't fried, some may not like it. Very few pork chunks were present.
Roast Chilli Pork Dry @ Rs.340 (Half) (2/5) Sorry to say, but the Chilli Pork didn't impress me much. It tasted like Salt & Pepper pork. The pork slices and green chili were deep-fried, which isn't the usual case elsewhere.
Usually, pork slices are properly roasted, giving that meatiness, but here it felt like chaat. The portion size was also not great compared to the price.
Pricing Some people on social media have said this place is cheap, but the reality is something else. Only the breakfast items are affordable, ranging from Rs.100-200, but the main courses are as expensive as those in premium China Town restaurants like Big Boss and Beijing. For example, Roast Chilli Pork is priced at Rs.540, and chicken and fish side dishes are priced between Rs.488-600.
Breakfast only for me was billed at Rs.620. The owner's behavior is very polite, but that doesn't mean you should pay more. I asked the owner how the prices are so high even without an alcohol license, but he wasn't able to justify.
Conclusion Go with only Rs.100 in your pocket and try the Wonton Noodles; that is the only thing worth trying here. Don't try anything else, or you'll end up wasting...
Read moreI have visited Lee Eathing House/Lee Garden Restaurant a number of times now. From hanging out with friends to going for big party orders, the restaurant does it all. I love the ambience which is quiet at peace with fine dim lighting giving a china town exclusive aesthetic and the food particularly the Thai soup, Chicken Chowmin and mixed fried rice is to die for. The rates of soups whether chicken and mix are the same and most pocket friendly for students, big parties and banquet orders. The owner of the Restaurant Brandon Li and his family overlook the cooking themselves and provide quick on spot preparation of even big order within 50 mins and small groups within 15 mins. They are extremely fast and skilled, a thing visible! Coming to quantity, I would say it's alot! I have surveyed the other Restaurants and believe me on my own they are the personification for value for money! The quantity is alot from fried rice to chowmien for 2-3 people sharing and their fish items including Chili Fish have solid pieces like no other (if I am being honest one of the best in proportion in Kolkata!) It is important to note they currently don't have a tie-up with Swiggy or Zomato directly for they believe in fresh food so guys/ gals at their home, you guys can call them up an hour in advance and then use "Swiggy Genie" to pick up and drop your orders personally. They welcome personal order through call and payment online so don't wait staring at the mouth watering pieces, go and get your...
Read moreThough we had come across the mention of Lee Eating House on different YT channels of food bloggers, we wanted to explore for breakfast for quite a while. Finally, yesterday er reached the place around 8:30 a.m. It was open though we were the first customers for the day. The owner was polite, kind and warm. He instantly made us feel welcome. We ordered Chicken Steamed Wontons, chicken and fish meatball soup(non spicy) and Aloo Bora. After eating the steamed Wontons, I realised that I should've probably ordered the fried ones as suggested by other reviewers because I've eaten better steamed Wontons elsewhere. It was just about decent. However the other two dishes were delicious. The chicken and fish meatball soup had two meatballs which tasted great. The soup was light and tasty. The show stopper had to be the Aloo Bora. It had chicken stuffing in the centre coated with smashed potato stuffing fried with the last coating of bread. Each plate had 3 Aloo Boras. They were delectable and filling. I would definitely go back to have them.
It's a family run restaurant with the owner and his wife running the place and kitchen both. We met her and complimented her on the food. They keep 1 to 1.5 hrs closed in the afternoon, so it's advisable to give them a call and check before visiting.
There's nothing much to talk about the ambiance but it's a clean and simple place which is quite pocket friendly as well.
Overall, it was a nice experience and I would definitely...
