Big Boss is arguably the most popular restaurant at China Town, Kolkata. There are hardly any instances where you plan to grab a meal China Town without considering Bigg Boss among all the other restaurants. It’s like pure nostalgia.

But after my recent visit there, it felt like it can mostly offer you the taste of nostalgia, rather than the taste of actual food.

We ordered -

Chicken Sweet Corn Soup Chicken Wonton Soup Crispy Fried Chicken Chilli Garlic Pepper Chicken Prawn Chips Chicken Fried Rice Chicken Cantonese Noodles Fung Chang Chicken

The sweet corn soup was average. The broth seemed less thick.

Crispy Fried Chicken was alright. It is one of their popular dishes, I have had it plenty of times before but this time I noticed, the quality has deteriorated.

Chilli Garlic Pepper Chicken felt good in taste, it was better than than the rest of the items we ordered.

Chicken Fried Rice was also alright, nothing extraordinary .

Now, we wanted the side dish to be less spicy. So, the waiter suggested us the Fung Chang chicken and claimed it to be one of their best sellers. But to our surprise, it was reasonably on the spicier side and didn’t taste that great either. The taste was just bland.

Also, if you are going for the first time, let me tell you that you can’t expect good hospitality here. They are not rude, but most of them are not that courteous either. But that’s a basic problem with most of the restaurants at China Town, I guess.

I would have rated 3 stars if it would have been my first visit, but 1 extra star is for that...

Our family recently visited Big Boss in Tangra, China Town, eager to experience authentic Chinese cuisine for dinner. It was our first time exploring the area, and we had high expectations given its reputation for great food.

We ordered Golden Fried Prawn and a Chicken Starter, paired with Fresh Lime Soda. For the main course, we had Schezwan Fried Rice with a Fish Side Dish. The food was delicious, well-seasoned, and the portion sizes were quite generous. The flavors were spot on, making it the highlight of our visit.

Unfortunately, the atmosphere was very disappointing. There was constant shouting across the seating area, making it extremely uncomfortable. Despite bringing this to the attention of the management, they ignored our concerns. The lack of control over the crowd ruined what could have been an enjoyable dining experience.

The service was extremely slow and poorly managed. Each item took around 30-45 minutes to arrive, which tested our patience. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and there was a clear lack of organization.

While the food was great, the poor ambience and slow service overshadowed our experience. We had to rush through our meal just to leave because of the uncomfortable environment. If Big Boss improves its management and service, it could be a fantastic place. But for now, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for a relaxed and pleasant...

Being in Kolkata, I had never been to Chinatown — funny enough, I’ve been to the Chinatowns in New York, London, and a few other big cities, but never here!

We planned to go out for dinner but hadn’t decided where to go. After shortlisting three restaurants, we finally chose Big Boss.

The place has that old-school restaurant feel — simple décor, nothing fancy or particularly “Chinese” about it. But don’t go by looks — it’s quite famous among locals, and the number of reviews speaks for itself.

Here’s what we ordered: • Drums of Heaven (with sauce): Super spicy, but I loved it! Not for everyone though — 4.5/5 • House Special Soup: Just okay (3/5). I actually mixed some of the DOH masala into it to make it eatable. • Mixed Schezwan Fried Rice: Excellent! Unlike many places in Kolkata where fried rice tastes too plain, this one had great flavor — cooked with Schezwan sauce, prawns, and shredded chicken. Could easily have it on its own.

• Hakka Noodles: Tasty but a bit too oily. • Prawn Pakoda: 4/5 • Lime Soda: Surprisingly amazing! No idea what masala they mixed in it, but it was better than what I usually get around my area.

Overall, I was really impressed with the food — definitely planning to...

Bigg Boss restaurant impresses with its reasonable prices, offering a diverse menu that caters to various tastes without breaking the bank. Additionally, their efficient parking service ensures a hassle-free experience, adding convenience to your visit. It's a winning combination of affordability and accessibility that contributes to the overall positive dining experience at Bigg Boss.Food was very average in taste compared to Golden Joy and Kim ling. Ample parking space available. Space was over crowded on Saturday evening as expected but didn't like the ambient. Service also not at all good. Food was getting served pretty quickly but they are just anyhow dropping the dishes in table and getting disappear no serving provided by them Bigg Boss restaurant boasts a commendable team of staff who consistently deliver exceptional service. Their friendly demeanor, attentiveness, and willingness to go the extra mile contribute significantly to the positive atmosphere and overall enjoyable dining experience.
