I will have to admit that given the price, I wasn't too happy with the overall experience. Food and drink approximately costs twice that in Oh Calcutta but the taste and presentation certainly takes a back seat .
The ambiance is nice and you get to feel happy that you are dining within the ITC compounds .But that's sort of it I guess. The food definitely wasn't bad quality wise; this is after all a very expensive meal we are talking about, but I really couldn't get the same sensation in my taste buds as I have had in cheaper but more popular Afghan joints in New York which are run by actual Afghani people. Even with presenting complimentary side dishes, I think Peshawari should definitely improve their game. In Oh Calcutta, you get a wide assortment of chutneys and raita the moment you are seated. Here it's just papad, onions and coriander paste. Nothing else.
With regards to drinks, I ordered two large Jack Daniels , pretty much the same thing I order in other restaurants from the bar as well. Here, I sort of felt that the drinks had a much weaker potency than in other joints. Unless you absolutely can't go without some poison for the day, I wouldn't recommend having drinks here.
Regarding the food, as I have said before, it is decent but just from a culinary standpoint, I couldn't discern anything unique. The chicken we particularly order tastes pretty much like the chicken you can get from any standard at a fraction of the price. The desserts were fine and the only saving grace I guess.
Also, one frustrating experience for me personally was having to deal with flies buzzing about occasionally on my table. It was so distracting to eat with them about.
In short, I would recommend a visit if only to gather the experience of getting to dine at ITC Sonar. I just won't vouch for the place...
Read moreI have been visiting Peshawri Kolkata for a very long time. Today on my birthday I decided to have dinner there with my family. Being a weekend the place was full. But we were seated next to a giant party table full of children and child like adults shouting screaming and laughing at the top of their lungs disturbing us to no end. My daughter even informed the duty manager and requested him to shift our tables - but he didn’t bother and simply said they were busy. The tables at the back of the restaurant weren’t full of shouting adults who think they own the place because they are paying for a meal with a group of 10-12 people- like the one seating in front of us. They were so noisy we could hardly hear each other. The worst part - staff didn’t even tell them once to keep it down, as if they were inside their own drawing room. We went to celebrate ourselves and they were informed regarding my birthday as well but guess what ? Our table request wasn’t entertained. The quality of the food has drastically gone down the chicken kurchan which is one of my all time favourite dish tasted too tangy and bad - maybe there were far too many people for the chefs to handle ? I don’t know. I didn’t enjoy my meal and wanted to get out of the hell hole . It was such a pathetic experience. I went to FABELLE to get a small piece of cake later on. The staff at this restaurant is nice we just have a problem with the manager, he was clueless and didn’t have the capacity to...
Read moreOverall a very disappointing experience. Would not come back and would not recommend. Restaurant has some huge fundamental problems. Firstly, it's located downstairs without any lift. We had a person with mobility issues and had to almost cancel the evening. However, we managed to finally bring her in through a back entrance in the car park. The design of the restaurant is aggressively terrible. The tables are cramped, there is barely any room for the food. You have to either sit shoulder to shoulder on a narrow bench or on some stools. By the end of the evening we all had sore backs and leg cramps. I am all for "rustic charm" can we please have a basic level of comfort? The plates are a very unappetizing colour, the glasses are wobbly and hard to drink out of and cutlery is placed in the centre of the table in a bucket like in a fast food restaurant. The food was decent, but nothing remarkable. Kebabs, naan from one of the moghlai chains would be as good (if not better) for a fraction of the price. We had 2 cocktails. Neither was very good, but one (pink city) was so flavorless that we had to send it back. Service was just functional and seemed to be least bothered about the guests. Waiters mostly ignored us and we would have to work hard to catch their attention to get any service. No one asked us how the food was, or if we would like another round of drinks or water. The best part of the evening was...
