Sigree, one of the most popular Buffet places in Kolkata. Located at Silver Spring Arcade at EM Bypass Road they have very nice dining with buffet spread along with full Bar experience to offer. It was on my bookmark list for long to, so finally last Saturday we gave it a try.
Starters (3.5/5) : As per the name of this place we were expecting some good quality Kebabs and they did filled our griller with Chicken, Fish, Prawn and Mutton Seekh Kebabs within a few minutes. They also served Jal Jira drink as complimentary startup drink. I personally found the drink to be very spicy and I think a lighter drink is what goes well with Kebabs all the time. However Kebabs were little too average, mostly bit burned or I was being too judgemental by compering it with Barbeque Nation all the time.
Those kebabs were served with Sweet, Green and Coconut Chutney. What! Coconut Chutney? When I asked their manager that who serves coconut chutney with kebabs? It’s South Indian chutney and meant to be served with Idly & Dosa. He replied “No Sir, It’s not coconut chutney. Its called Hamai, its a Lebanese sauce meant to be serve with kebabs only. You will find coconut flavour in our mousse.” I regret my knowledge of food, but later on when I googled it I found nothing about it. If you know anything about this please let me know in the comment section.
Mains (3.5/5) : Mains were mostly filled with Indian dishes from Dal, Indian Veg dishes, Paneer Hara Pyaz with Steam Rice and Pyaz Tomato Pulao etc. Wheres global dishes now? However I was very happy to see Mutton Biryani and Chicken Chap in mains. But… Most of the time I failed to get even a single piece of Mutton in Mutton Biryani. They were taking very long to refill it & whenever refilled the crowd used to jump all over it and all gone again within a fraction of seconds before my turn came. It seemed like I was there for free and begging for Muttons. Somehow after 3-4 attempts I finally got some Mutton Biryani and Chicken Chap on my plate but that wasn’t great either. We switched to desserts after that.
Desserts (2.5/5) : Assorted Mousse, Rice Kheer & hot Gulab Jamun was very average. Laddu was extremely hard so that you can throw it on someone and hurt them very badly. Chocolate, Strawberry and Red Velvet pasties were below average. But the most important thing Ice Cream was super duper bad. Although 4 flavours were available including Vanilla, Butter Scotch, Tutti Fruity and Chocolate, but all those specially Chocolate was horrible. These were the worst Ice Cream I’ve ever tried.
Service : Whatsoever coming to their service when serving starters, they were refilling the griller with Kebabs sticks very frequently and also refilling complimentary drink glass. But whenever we asked to serve the most likely Kebabs like Mutton kebabs they played a very good trick. We asked several waiters passing by our table to serve Mutton Kebabs and all of them replied “Yes, coming” but nobody actually served the same. After 7-8 attempts and wasting almost half an hour then they finally served few pieces of it. Ah! A very new trick to be good at service without serving.
Pricing : Non-Veg buffet on Saturday costs us Rs.721+ Tax. With a glass of Pepsi for Rs.90, our total bill was Rs. 1609 for 2 person.
Conclusion : Paying almost Rs.800 per person, I didn’t expected such buffet experience from Sigree. This buffet experience includes mixed feeling from very average to bad to super bad but nothing was good or exceptionally good.
For almost same price Barbeque Nation offers much better variety in starters, mains and desserts. Not only that, all the dishes over there tastes much better with their exceptionally good service. So, why Sigree? It was a one time mistake that I did but if paying this much I will definitely consider...
Read moreWent for Sigree Buffet Non Veg Lunch to celebrate my birthday with my family. We went at 12.30pm sharp so that we could get a big 6 people table. It really gets very crowded in week ends so don't be late. The following are the pros:- 1)Ambience- was awesome the interior decoration the ceiling lights the live pasta & pizza counter and the cocktail counter really will add to the flavour. Inside it is reasonable spacious as well. I will give 5 out of 5. 2) Starter- Chicken Peshawar Kebab, Panchforon Fish Tikka, Radhuni Fish Tikka, Barbq Prawn & Mutton seekh Kebab. The pick of the lot was Barbeque Prawn, it was mouth watering & delicious. Try to keep a balance and eat else you stomach will have no space for main coarse & desserts. There is no option to give any point below 5 out of 5. 3) In the live pasta section we tried white sauce pasta with various toppings and chicken cheese Pizza both of them were awesome and really tasty. Although we did not try live south Indian counter which consisted of Dhosa, Fried Idli, Uthhapam(tried). I will give 5 out of 5. 4) Main coarse- We had roasted chicken, Dhania Murg, Kadai Fish, Tomato Prawn Curry and last but not the least our favourite Mutton Biriyani. Truely speaking Mutton Biriyani was very light and super tasty, the mutton was soft and well cooked. Roasted Chicken and kadhai fish was very good too and so was prawn curry. Didn't like the Dhania Murg at all. Didn't had much space in stomach to accommodate the main coarse but tasted all of them. Didn't try the vegetable main coarse though. There was chicken toppings soup as well which we didn't try.I will give 4.5 out of 5. 5) Desserts - It included pineapple halwa, langcha malpua with rabri, apple tart, firni, mousse, fresh fruits, pastry and 4 types of ice cream. We tried all of them but I like the malpua with rabri the most. Really forced by stomach to accommodate 2 malpoas and lanchas. Ice was good too. I will give 5 out of 5. 6) The behaviour of the steward who assisted us "Mr Arijit" was very courteous & helpful and came to us many times to ask whether we need anything more or to repeat the starters.
Now the cons are below, it was very tough to identify the cons but managed to find a few which may be helpful for the restaurant management so that nxt time everyone give 5 star rating always:-
To sum up overall I will give 4.5 out of 5 and suggest everyone to must try the buffet lunch. Look forward to visit...

It's actually a part of a multipurpose complex where others restaurants are also present like Mainland China, O'Calcutta, The Spring Club etc. Sigree Global Grill is located at 1st floor of this arcade and you would like to take the stairs instead of the lift since the lift is as not clean as you expect it to be. Sigree is a buffet style restaurant with both continental as well as Indian Dishes. Even a bar is also present over here where you have to pay the price according to the choice of drink you prefer apart from the main course menu charges. The course prices vary depending on what the course you prefer ie: either non-veg or veg. Even the prices fluctuates as per the day of your arrival. The ambience is nice with moderate lightning, music, essence etc. Moreover two TVs are also present which telecasts two different channels. So sometimes the choices of table vary as per this channel preferences. On your welcome the staff would like to ask you something what you will like to have as starters or any alterations or preferences you would like to indicate like drinking wter, food allergy etc. After you finish up the 1st provided starters along with the chutneys provided they will enquire you which one to repeat. Also an extra drink menu is provided to you for selecting any drink of your choice(non alcoholic), price of which will be added to your bill finally apart from course bill. Now as you finish these up, it's your choice whether to repeat or wait for the next set. So it's better if you settle down for half an hour to 45minutes allowing little space to build inside your stomach to intake the next course. So located at the edge of the restaurant is the buffet serving variety of dishes on right side of which presented the bar. You can take the items one by one checking the names given below checking whichsoever is suitable for you. The main course is followed by the desert courses where it's better to start once you have finished up your mains. Variety of items like cakes, pastries, Gulab Jamuns, Ice Creams, Halwa, Chocolate Chips for garnishing, honey for taste etc are presented. Don't try to make your desert plate more sugary or else you would likely be ending up in the washroom. The Menu is displayed at the entrance gate. so you can check it over there while enrolling yourselves for a Table. As a conclusion I would like to mention that the restaurant is awesome with good ambience, nice service of the staff, food quality is variable as per personal taste. The washroom is clean equipped with necessary technologies. So people can surely hang out over here with their families or colleagues...
