One-Star Review
I recently ate at Rang De Basanti Dhaba, Kankurgachi and was absolutely appalled. What they passed off as “biryani” was just bullshit – bland, undercooked, lacking flavour, and not worth even a fraction of what they charged. But what makes this experience even worse is their pricing fraud.
They charged ₹55 for a water bottle whose MRP is printed as ₹20. This is outrageous cheating. It's not just bad service, it's illegal.
Why This Is Illegal Under Indian Law
Here are some of the relevant laws or rules they are violating:
Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 Under these rules, pre-packaged goods (like bottled water) must be sold at or below the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on the item. Selling above that is a violation.
Legal Metrology Act Someone found guilty of selling a packaged commodity for more than the MRP can be fined. For example, the first offence may attract a penalty (sometimes up to ₹25,000) and repeat offences can get more serious.
Consumer Protection Act 2019 / Unfair Trade Practice Charging more than the MRP or passing off poor quality food (like bad biryani) amounts to unfair trade practice and deficiency in service. Consumers have the right to complain to the consumer forum.
There are precedents:
Restaurants have been fined for charging more than the printed MRP on bottled water.
Consumer forums have ordered compensation for mental harassment and demanded refunds in...

I went there on a Sunday evening with my bestie. Had great expectations from this place but was disappointed to its maximum 🙂
The interior was nicely designed..
As we went there around 5pm, we decided to order less and chat for a while. But there was a staff who was constantly standing near us and looking at us. We ordered 1 dish and said that we didn't want anything else at that moment but still he kept wandering around us and stared at us. We felt so uncomfortable that we couldn't even chat properly. After a while, he came to ask about the food. We complained about its quantity and served us some more of the same dish to compensate. But after that also he kept staring at us. It was so intimidating 😑.. We felt forced to order another dish just to brush him off😐😐😐 Overall the experience was so weird.. 😕
We ordered👇🏻
Amul Cheese Chicken Tikka [6pcs] ₹355 : taste was good but the quantity was so less compared to the price (size of the chicken pieces was too small). There were far more onions than the chichen quantity 😐 Desi Fish (Basa) and Chips ₹365 : the fish was not basa.. It tasted like cheap rohu fish. Not at all good 🥲
Overall, I will not recommend this place to...
Read moreRang De Basanti Dhaba is a really good and busy restaurant specializing in North Indian dhaba and fusion cuisine. I went with my family and the ambience is very dhaba style vibrant and energetic. We had their speciality starter " Utterly Utterly Chicken" which is inspired from Delhi's Jama Masjid style butter chicken. We also took Kasundu Fish Tikka which was very earthy and zingy in flavour. The chicken was succulent and well doused in butter. For the mains we got plain and butter nun on the crispy flaky side along with Kolkata Chicken Bharta which was perfectly complimenting each other. The level of spice was perfect for us, but one can ask the staff for adjusting to their spice tolerance. We took their special Goli Soda as our beverage which balanced the heavy meal wonderfully. The staff is helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a lot and would love to visit again. However this restaurant is a very popular and busy one so you should take some time in hand to get a table there....
