My 3rd visit here and the last one. Hopefully. I said hopefully because each time I say this to myself but I come back here only because this is right next to my house and it was one such rainy nights when it was pouring hard and ETA for food delivery was over 2 hours.
This restaurant is in a stand alone residential place. The entrance is really bad. Parking is on the street and is free which is why I gave one star in the raiting.
One has to take an elevator for the restaurant. Really scary elevator which is screaming for repair and maintenance. It can barely take 2 people but there is a lift operator who smells of sweat and bidi. Those few seconds of elevator is unbearable. But yes, you can choose stairs to climb all the way up to the restaurant to avoid the unsafe lift and the bad smell..
Once you're inside you will feel very cramped. Smelly chair upholstery with patches and stains. The tables are just stuffed next each other to maximize the space.
Do not expect any customer service. The guys who serve are neither trained nor they have basic hygiene. If you have a sensitive nose, I suggest you skip this place or you may suffer due to bad smell everywhere.
I ordered chilli pepper fish for starters and couldn't go beyond tasting it. They argued why it was supposed to be made like that. Then I ordered simple daal, some chicken gravy stuff, Naan, and peas pulav. I had to get everything packed because they weren't edible. Pulav was sweet. Yes, believe me, it was sweet. I asked them to taste.. They tasted it.. and omg, they agreed to take back pulav with sugar. I was so honored.
Food is really really average on a borderline to being bad. You will be amazed at the speed with which most dishes are served on a weekend. Yes, most of it is recycled. Bad quality ingredients, bad preparation.. You can go on and on.
I guess that is what happens when people with no hospitality background runs a restaurant. They get miser with their salaries, they compromise on the safety and the experience. But this is exactly what is happening here in Calcutta. Sad.
Oh yeah, the crowd here is really bad. Most people from the basti can be found here, making you...
Read moreVisited this place on Ashtami, and as expected, it was jam packed. We had a waiting period of 30 mins before we got a table. An immediate con which you notice is there is no separate wash basin area and it is inside the washroom itself for which there are long queues outside the washroom at any point of time. Also, the dining area in which we were seated was very cramped, so that's another point which left us unimpressed.
Coming to the food, we had ordered the following:
Chicken Sweet Corn Soup: Classic soup, tasted exactly as expected, didn't disappoint. Rating - 4.5/5.
Chicken Hot n Sour Soup: Again, timeless classic. Tasted pretty well too. Rating - 4.5/5.
Tandoori Murg: Slightly disappointed in this starter, as the chicken was quite dry and rubbery. Also, they didn't give the mint chutney accompaniment which usually goes with a tandoori chicken. Rating - 3/5.
Paneer Lababdar: Tasted a little sweet, which was kind of unexpectedly for a Lababdar, but was still tasty. The paneer pieces were quite big and soft. Rating - 4/5.
Chicken Bharta: Good accompaniment with the naan and the kulcha. The amount was quite sufficient, but I'd say the dish was a little bit too oily. The taste was pretty decent, however. Rating - 4/5.
Apart from these, there is an in-house bar as well where you can order your choice of drinks. The service is quite fast, but the price is a little on the higher side as well. Overall, there are far better places for the pocket pinch which you'll get on...
Read moreZyka is an old restaurant and quite popular among the locals of New Alipore. It is located nearby to the New Alipore Local Train Station.
Both Indian and Chinese cuisines are available. Food from both the cuisines usually taste quite good. I am saying "usually" because the restaurant is a bit inconsistent as to the quality of the food. On one visit you may find that the food tastes brilliant, while on other visits you may find that it tastes pretty average. Still, overall, the taste of the food is good and the quantity they serve means that one plate is sufficient for two people.
The atmosphere is generally nice and cozy. However, sometimes there are groups of drunk customers at the tables who shout and laugh at the top of their voices which really ruins the dining experience for other customers.
In all, the restaurant is nice with good food and décor. Staff are alright as well. Pocket pinch is about INR 1000/- for two people without alcohol. Indian and Chinese vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines are available, along with a selection of alcoholic and...
