Happy World Restaurant — Restaurant in Ladakh

The Happy World Restaurant is a long-standing eatery just off the busy junction of Zangsti Road and Fort Road. Run by a friendly Nepali lady, the huge menu running into 14 pages covers a bewildering range of Indian, Chinese, Tibetan, Continental, Italian and Thai cuisine. When I last visited more than a year back, the outdoor seating area, which I preferred, was being renovated and enclosed. I'm glad they've done a good job of it, the huge glass windows keeping out the noise and dust, but letting in the sun and light. It remains a great place for people-watching. I ordered a masala chai and banana porridge. I'm glad they passed the porridge test. The porridge was cooked just right, the banana firm not soft or squishy. I have spent few days in Leh. One day our group got late and all restaurants were closed so finally we found this place which was closed for the day but owner agreed to open and cook for us.
