I finally visited Anglo Indian Café in Lonavala after hearing so much buzz about it. I came away thinking it’s a bit overhyped, to be honest. It’s not a bad place by any means, but not as amazing as the social media rave reviews had led me to believe. Food & Drinks: The food at Anglo Indian Café was a mixed bag in terms of taste. We ordered a pizza, hara bhara kabab, a pasta dish, and a couple of mocktails. The pizza and pasta were decent – hot and fresh, but nothing exceptional or particularly memorable flavor-wise. The hara bhara kabab (a green veggie kebab) came out a bit on the dry side, lacking the moist, melt-in-your-mouth texture I was hoping for. The mocktails were beautifully presented (they definitely looked Instagram-ready with all the fancy garnishes), but when it came to taste, they fell a little flat, lacking depth in flavor beyond the initial sweetness. Ambience: Ambience is one area where Anglo Indian Café does shine at first glance. The café has a charming, quirky decor – there’s even a cozy swing seat and plenty of cute touches – which makes for some great photo ops. The vibe is relaxed and the hillside location adds a nice backdrop, especially if you sit out on the porch. However, given all the hype around this place (I’ve seen it all over Instagram), I expected something extraordinary; in reality, the ambience was good but not mind-blowing compared to the buzz. Service: One thing that dampened the experience was the waiting time and the service speed. We visited during a non-peak hour, yet still had to wait around 15 minutes for a table, which was a bit frustrating since the café wasn’t even full at that time. Once we were seated, the staff was polite and courteous – they greeted us warmly and were pleasant in all interactions – but the service was somewhat slow. It took a while for our food to arrive, and we even had to flag someone down to get the bill. For a place that wasn’t too crowded, we expected things to be quicker. What others might enjoy: All that said, I can see why some people still rave about Anglo Indian Café. The interior is definitely Instagram-worthy and unique, so if you’re into café-hopping for the aesthetics, this place will scratch that itch. They also have a decent variety on the menu, with a mix of cuisines from Indian to continental, meaning there’s something for everyone to choose from. In terms of concept and variety, it’s got a lot going on, which might appeal to visitors looking for a one-stop spot to try different types of dishes. Bottom line: If you visit expecting great ambience and photo ops, you’ll probably be happy here; if you’re looking for a stellar culinary experience, you might leave a bit...
Read moreI don’t really like it when bloggers hype up a place on Instagram or restaurants pay bloggers to do that, and it doesn’t live up to the expectations. I visited this place when it had first opened I guess more than a year back probably in 2022 when I visited for the first time, back then I’d definitely rate it 5/5 for everything like the food, ambience and service etc. I visited recently last Sunday, and there was a huge crowd and a wait time of at least 30-45mins, we were a group of 13 so we didn’t mind waiting so long, got our table in about 20 mins which was good.
The service was decent considering the amount of crowd they had, the food I felt that the quality had gone down a bit since my last visit.
We had the following items:
Onion rings 4/5
Anglo Olio Prawns 2/5 ( Prawns were hard and didn’t seem fresh.
Desi Chicken Tacos 3/5 The chicken in the tacos had a nice flavour and dip was great too, but the taco shells apparently were the hardest I’ve ever had
Margherita Pizza 5/5 the simplest dish in the menu was the best
Chipotle Chicken Pizza 2/5 The pizza was very cheesy and had a good portion of chicken on each slice, but it was way too greasy and the dough almost felt as if it wasn’t cooked well enough, for me the pizza felt like a chipotle chicken curry with some bread.
Anglo Olio Burrata Fondue 3/5 The fondue was great no doubt but the breads were a huge disappointment it almost felt stale, they looked crispy on the outside but were very dry and chewy even after being dipped and soaked well in the fondue. The veggies were fresh in the fondue but the bread was a big no!
Sizzling brownie with ice cream 5/5 Bang on, that was a killer dessert ! Perfect brownie and ice cream and the portion size was also very good.
I’ve eaten at a lot of places and in my opinion the menu felt a little overpriced for the quality of the food served.
To sum up my review, you should visit the place since they have a nice ambience if you order the following items that I’ve mentioned then you already know what recommendations to make to the staff, I’ll try to visit again and hope that time I have a better experience...
