A family run bakery established during the British time by late Mr.D'Souza (originally from Goa). Currently the bakery is run passionately by the 2nd & 3rd generation members of the D'Souza family. It is located in the main market and easy to locate.. Although the name has "Dairy" mentioned, no dairy products are prepared or sold here.
At the counter, one will come across Mr.Bevan who is the 3rd generation D'Souza. He is a perfect gentleman and his service, nature , attitude is too good....inshort Bevan is an excellent human being. Thank you Bevan.
Coming back to the bakery, a must try is their Carrot and Date Cake, Banana Raisin Loaf, Mava Cake, Jam tarts, Choco chip cookies, ginger biscuit, prawn pattice and Chicken sausage roll.
The Nankatai biscuits (felt a bit underbaked) but I loved them and the Fig and Cashew Pie ( less moist) can be considered too.
Overall a nice place with lots of goodies to choose from and chat with an excellent host in the form of Mr. Bevan.
Price : Reasonably priced for majority of the goodies but felt that it was slightly on the high side for pattice/ rolls only. ( but ok considering a tourist destination and Inline with prices of food in the market)
Parking : located in the market, so go on foot.
Timings : Tuesdays closed and operates between 10:30 am to 09: 00 pm. Also closed for 3 months during monsoons only.
There are benches/ swing in the compound to sit and enjoy the goodies and the market atmosphere .
A definite must visit place in...
Read moreElsie's Dairy & Bakery, a charming spot in Mahabaleshwar, has been serving delicious treats for over 170 years, making it a must-visit on your trip. Located on the bustling Mahabaleshwar Market road, this bakery stands out with its red brick and wooden structure, a delightful contrast to the modern surroundings.
Stepping inside Elsie’s Bakery feels like stepping back in time. The aroma of freshly baked cakes, pastries, and puffs instantly transports you to a different era, leaving you mesmerized. The humble owner, who is often found in the back of the shop, adds to the bakery’s old-world charm.
We tried their Banana Walnut Cake and Strawberry Jam Cake, and they were among the best we've ever had. While most bakeries offer items priced between 60-90 INR, the cakes here range from 300-400 INR, offering great value for such exceptional quality.
When you visit Elsie’s, you’re not just enjoying delicious treats—you’re tasting a piece of history. Some of their most famous products include Carrot Date Cake, Banana Raisin Loaf, Apple Tart, Chocolate Muffins, Pineapple Muffins, and of course, the Banana Walnut Cake and Strawberry Jam Cake.
Best enjoyed with family, friends, or even on a quiet outing with your significant other or kids,

Read moreI got to know about this bakery while reading reviews about the food. We visited there with our family. However we were very very disappointed by their behaviour. Very rude in speaking with their customers. This can not be expected especially in a tourist destination. They have a policy that outside food is not allowed. That is perfectly okay but they did not even allowed a a small 3 year old to finish his lolipop. They bluntly asked us to leave and said they do not need customers. How arrogant is that. They started shouting without any reason. This attitude will not help them in a long way. Soon people will realise this. Lot of neighbouring shop keepers told us that many customers have faced this issue before but possibly it could not come on social media. Time to bring this up for everyone to know. They might be serving good stuff but they are not good people to deal with Highly not recommended...
