Read moreHere are a few observations from the few times I've visited Kynjai: The quality of foods and beverages served here is terrific and one can only deduce that the cook(s) who prepare(s) them and the ingredients being used to prepare them must be top-tier as well, The quantities of food served in a plate/bowl while optimal, the beverages (specially the varieties of hot and cold coffees) strictly with respect to the prices charged, is less than optimal. For reference, their hot mocha with cream is charged at ₹180 that comes in a frustrum-shaped glass cup that holds maybe 100-120 mL of coffee, While all the tables are equipped with a horde of additional cutlery and paper tissues but are devoid of the heart & soul of any japanese or south korean dish: condiments, While I appreciate the practicalility with which Kynjai has only kept steel spoons and forks at their tables, for an all-in korean/japanese dining experience, the availability of chopsticks (disposable or otherwise) could be considered, Appetizers in general are shared amongst people. At Kynjai, they are served on a single tray with tiny singular bowls of condiments (2 at max) with even lesser portions, that come with the dish itself. This tends to dampen the spirit of sharing the appetizers amongst a group of 2 people due to Lastly, majority of Kynjai has indoor seats with one section that even has a fireplace, which for winters in Shillong, is amazing but seeing how summers here are getting warmer with every passing year, a few outdoor seating options could also be explored especially since the restaurant has a nice little garden-esque space within...
Being a regular of this establishment for the past few years, it saddens and pains me to see how an establishment which i have been apart with for so many years and how far it has fallen along with their standards due to the pride and arrogance their staff members have for being a popular restaurant. As a paying customer not only the food but how i am treated as a customer is included in the overall experience i am paying for; yet the staff not only made a mistake but they also tried to insult me by calling me arrogant and also made light and did not understand the severity of the issue and of the mistake they had made. They also refused to show a sense of responsibility and failed to realize the mistake they had made; the owner on the other hand was lovely he apologized and understood the severity of the issue; however even if the owner is a nice person not keeping your staff in line would be very harmful for your establishment and would do you more harm than good. So I would recommend other Asian Food places within the city who have more decent and sensible staff and who would treat you much much better.
My experience involved the following: 1)I was initially served the wrong order. 2)When the dish was served it contained eggshells, making it unsafe to consume. 3)The food was served in broken and chipped utensils, posing a clear hygiene and injury risk. 4)Upon raising these concerns, the kitchen staff behaved rudely, called me “arrogant,” and showed no willingness to apologize or resolve the matter. Such conduct reflects poor hygiene standards and a serious lack of...
Read moreFood was really really poor and full of chicken gristle and uncooked bits of skin. Pretty inedible. Ordered Oyakodon, it wasn’t Oyakodon. Unflavoured rice with bits of veg and gristle.
I’ve only ever asked to not pay for food twice in my life, this was one of them. When speaking to the owner about not paying for the awful dish he immediately got angry, without trying to rectify the situation or say why that wouldn’t be possible (I can see why, food waste etc we even offered to the staff to just pay for one when we had two or take some kind of discount off)- he just shouted the phone, instantly said we were trying to bully him but we hadn’t even spoken to him yet and he spoke to me in a very insulting way and one quote ‘you are pitiful, you’re an embarrasment’. He then proceeded to play the race card twice, which shocked and upset me. I can deal with an angry man but don’t expect race to be brought into it.
Staff are evidently terrified of him because nobody wanted to contact him- I can see why if he reacts with this fury to a customer.
However, the staff themselves were great and dealt with the situation very professionally; unlike the owner who should take note from his staff.
Think twice before eating here as the money goes into the pocket of someone who, when it comes down to it, will treat his customers terribly.
Staff good, food awful, owner a nasty piece of work.
If you see a reply on this as a ‘counter argument’ please don’t note I have actually toned down the experience. The lowest I could put was one star overall (it would be none) but the...
