Bánh mì & fries - Rs.220 Mini Pork Khinkhali - Rs.150 The Wok, Laitumkhrah, Shillong Asian $$ 05.07.24 Today I was out looking for lunch in Laitumkhrah. I had two options in mind but both were closed. Not wanting to waste my lunch hour, I decided to visit The Wok. I haven't visited it since before the Pandemic & well my sister told me that they had included more items on their menu. I stepped inside this popular Chinese restaurant & it was evident by the number of tables occupied. I was handed the menu & quickly started looking for things I've never tried before. One such item was the Bành Mí, a Hotdog like sandwich, Vietnamese style. I placed my order along with a portion of French Fries. I requested to cut down on the cheese. 2 mins later I noticed that I had missed out a section of the menu which had a far more exciting item, mini Pork Khinkhalis from Georgia. The waitress informed that they were juicy dumplings. Now how could I not order juicy dumplings. The Bành Mí came first & it looked very good. It came with the fries & coleslaw. 2mins later the Khinkalis came. They came with 8 pieces with 2 dipping sauces, chilli & sesame, & looked like regular momos. I took a bite of the Bành Mí & it immediately impressed me. The fact that there were slices of flavorful chicken & not minced gave it the right texture with the soft bun. I'm glad the cheese was minimal as I could then get the flavor of the meat & bread. I only wished there was more fresh veggies added, not coleslaw. The fries were ok. The Khinkali were definitely juicy inside but tasted no different from the normal momos & 150 bucks for 8 pcs, it was ok. Instagram ID - kari.on.eats

The Wok's standout branch sets a high bar, far surpassing its other branches, with an exquisite blend of quality, quantity and taste. Notably affordable, this branch offers a culinary experience that appeals to both the palate and the wallet. Located at a place with easy access to public transport, The Wok attracts a consistent clientele. The small free parking area is a thoughtful touch for those arriving by car. However, its modest seating capacity can be a downside, especially during peak times when demand is high. Cleanliness is a notable feature of this branch. The dining area is well-maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Management even allows patrons to inspect the kitchen, demonstrating their commitment to hygiene and transparency. This open policy builds trust and enhances the overall dining experience. Customer satisfaction is important at The Wok, though there's room for improvement. While the staff is generally courteous and attentive, enhancing the overall atmosphere, some aspects could be fine-tuned to make every visit memorable. The combination of service and food quality is good, but a few adjustments could elevate its status further among both locals and visitors. In summary, this branch of The Wok distinguishes itself with outstanding cuisine, reasonable pricing, and unwavering dedication to cleanliness and customer care. Whether a frequent diner or a first-time guest, the exceptional experience at The Wok is sure to leave a lasting impression.

The Wok in Shillong is an excellent place to enjoy a variety of Asian delicacies in a casual and comfortable setting. The ambience is simple yet welcoming, which adds to the overall dining experience. What truly stands out about this restaurant is the quality of food. Every dish we tried was well-prepared and bursting with flavor. Their menu is impressive, offering a wide range of options from Thai curry to Chinese staples like wanton momos. I personally loved their momos—they were soft, perfectly cooked, and came with delicious dipping sauces. The chilli chicken was another highlight of our meal, full of spice and just the right level of heat. We paired it with fried rice, which was equally good—fluffy and full of flavor. One of the best parts about dining here is that they have a dedicated parking spot, which is such a relief in a city like Shillong where parking can often be a challenge. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is due to their pricing of beverages. They served a small glass of Coke for ₹50, which I found unreasonable. It would be great if they could sell bottled drinks instead, as most places do, which would be more convenient and fair. Aside from that minor issue, I have no complaints. Overall, The Wok is a fantastic spot for anyone craving quality Asian food in Shillong.

This place has good reviews so we walked in for dinner. The food was terrible ( Garlic chicken wings which was served were so stale and fibrous ) , The so called wok special chilly was underwhelming and a let down . The staff were very polite and professional I have to give them that but the food was really disappointing .

Edit :- To the management of this restaurant who replied to my review . Thanks for taking time to read it anyway . Answers to your questions

  1. Do you know that if I proceeded to eat or to walk away from a dirty place after noticing it ? Or you just assumed that we ended up eating it .
  2. It isn't mandatory to reach out to the manager or to the staff to tell that the food was sub par . Different people express it in different ways . (Now that you took time to go through all of my reviews you would have also noticed I take time to review the places as it is . It may not be to your favor but it is what it is from a customer point of view . )

3)The unprofessional manner of your reply speaks a way lot more about you than me . You sit and pick all the negative comments / reviews which I posted selectively for your convenience but I have given positive feedback for numerous places which served good food for the customer's hard earned money .

  1. Also your personal comments (which is directly against the Google guidelines ) asking me to open my own eatery and to farewell and suggesting that my life is been terrible ? Very classy from your part (Sarcasm intended in case it doesn't get through to you) .

  2. Maybe next time try to value a customer's feedback and try to show some empathy rather than replying and attacking a customer...
