Raj restaurant & bar, located on the busy street food road of Chembur camp, is your typical local bar which has undergone a much needed renovation recently. I used to be a frequent to this bar & restaurant since the time this came into existence. During those days, this bar was notoriously popular among the locals & the call centre crowd in the early 2000s due to its all day & night opening hours. One could often come here, have drinks & food irrespective of how late the hours are. I remember during my call centre days, our gang used to hit this place around 5ish in the morning after our shift :p Well, now it's a different story. The restaurant closes post 2 am. The place looks much livelier now after the renovation. Innovative lightnings & for a change clean interiors. Once you enter you'll be treated with the sight of the typical local bar with non AC section. But once you move ahead, you'll have the choice of two renovated AC sections. Bar menu is reasonably priced while the food is slightly on the higher side. But this is much compensated with the good quality of food served, especially the wonderful Fish koliwada, prawns fry, soyabean grilled etc. Seafood served here is fresh. Though they have decent chicken starters as well, I usually prefer the seafood for obvious reasons. Prawns biryani in main course is absolutely yummy. Bar menu has most of the well known domestic brands in spirits & beer. Service is a bit of a let down, but do request the recently promoted Captain Sathyan alias Anna, while ordering food. He'll definitely make sure you are well taken care of. Crowded during weekends, the place is located next to the famous sindhi joint Vig. Recommended for a casual meet up with friends over drinks. Hope the owner maintains the restaurant well and does not go the way like most other dim/shady bars...

Restaurant Review: Raj Bar and Restaurant, Chembur Camp

Last night, I visited the legendary Raj Bar and Restaurant in Chembur Camp with three friends. We arrived around 9 PM and were initially struggling to get a table due to the crowd. Eventually, we were offered a table inside a small, air-conditioned room. However, the room had a weird smell and the walls were damp and leaking due to the rain. We requested the manager to change our table, and after a while, we were moved to a newly opened dining room.

The food took quite a long time to be prepared and served, which made us tired and bored. Our first order, Chicken Tandoori, arrived within 15 minutes but was cold due to the table change. Despite this, it tasted really good. Next, we tried their special appetizer, Chicken Maska Chaska Kebab, served in a clay pot. It was delicious but also took a long time to prepare. The third dish, Prawns Koliwada, was just okay.

We also ordered cocktails: Long Island Iced Tea and Orange Blossom. The Long Island Iced Tea was fine, but the Orange Blossom had black food particles in it, so we asked the manager to change it.

For the main course, we had Chicken Bhuna and Butter Chicken with roti and garlic naan. The Chicken Bhuna was very tasty, while the Butter Chicken was average but had a nice consistency and color. Overall, the food was decent with a few standout items, but the service was poor. There was a lack of communication, and the wait time for the food was excessively long.

Despite arriving at 9 PM, we didn’t leave the restaurant until 12 AM due to the prolonged service times.

LOCATION - located in chembur camp area. AMBIENCE - the wall is decorated with very good eye catching paintings. Each painting has some deep meaning in it also surrounded by nice artificial flowers. The light lamps are unique one. They have 2 different section one is bar section and another is family section. MAIN COURSE -we ordered one chicken muglai along with 5 rotis quantity was sufficient for 2 but the taste was lacking the taste was not at all up to the mark. STAFF SERVICE - staff service was good waiting time was appropriate. One point I would specifically like to mention that washroom was not clean at all. Cleanliness is lacking here. The finger bowl they gave after our dinner the water was not even warm though the person checked the water still he gave it like that. DRAW BACK - i would like to share this point particularly that the food menu price are so very high. I don't understand why they have kept this much high price here it's not at all affordable to be here. SUGGESTION - staff service should be improvised.
