Thotrin Café is a hidden gem located in Kalina. It specializes in serving food of the Seven Sisters (Seven North Eastern States of India). I discovered this restaurant on Zomato while browsing and was very much convinced to order because they served North Eastern Cuisine and because they had amazing reviews. For a person like me who eats out approximately 225 days in a year, it is very rare that a restaurant scores 100% in each rating category. I usually compare, analyze the smallest details and then rate each dish and each restaurant I try. Thotrin Café has scored 100% in every single element in my rating. The food absolutely blew my mind, I was in a food coma and my soul was satisfied to the highest levels.

Zomato Gold Delivery: Yes (Manipuri Style Fish Gravy was the free dish)
The first dish I ordered was Escargo (Landsnail) with Hoksa (Pork) as I am an adventurous eater. The gravy was spicy to the perfect level, the pork was so tender and well cooked and escargo were a lot in quantity. I first removed the meat from all the Escargo and then ate this dish with homecooked rice. Believe me, this gravy and rice is a match made in heaven. The entire combination absolutely made me fall in love with the dish. I absolutely bow down to such level of cooking. This was one of the most amazing lunches of my life. Coming to the second dish, Manipuri Style Fish Gravy which I had saved for dinner and after getting blown out by the first dish, I stayed positive but expected less from the second dish. So I decided to eat this second dish also with home cooked rice and I was blown by the taste one more time. The fish was a lot in quantity, the gravy was an absolute mix of spices and various other elements. I actually loved Fish Curry more than Escargo & Hoksa dish. Thotrin Café has earned me as a customer for a lifetime after making my entire day so amazing with two amazing meals. I cannot find one point where they went wrong. Do not think twice before ordering from here and please order North Eastern Cuisine from here.

Read moreI'll try to give an honest in-depth review of this place as a neutral who is trying north eastern cuisine for the first time.
It's a small place besides a chicken seller shop, sometimes you even get that bird smell in the serving area at top floor. They do have AC. The staircase is pretty steep to reach up. 4 tables at top floor. Overall not so ambient place. The timings of restaurant are not updated, we went at 2:30 noon and they were closed. Opened again at 7:30 pm evening. And this was on Sunday.
FOOD: Ordered hoksa(pork) curry with bamboo shoots and sticky rice, and Iromba, all recommended by waiter, while pork sausage and pork momos as our choice. Iromba is white chutney which he said is less spicy but also turned out to be very spicy. Pork curry has less gravy and filled most with a lot of oil, we mixed oil and some bamboo shoots with rice to eat as there was negligible gravy. But the Pork was well cooked and tasty👍. Bamboo shoot has a very strong unique smell, many people might not like it, so order accordingly. Pork sausage taste was very unique, don't know to describe it as good or bad, that was spicy too, had many green chilli pieces inside it. Iromba was a like a spicy gravy chutney, can't mix with rice, didn't know what to do with it. Pork momos were the tastiest, one of the best we've eaten😊, especially with that unique chutney, seemed like blend of pan fried onions and some other things, had dark brown colour. Complimented the pork meat so well.
Overall, all dishes are on the spicier side and very unique of making it.
SERVICE: Language barrier is evident. They don't seem to understand much English, but they're very friendly. Like the waiter suggested us Iromba chutney, but when asked he couldn't tell how to eat all the dishes in a systematic way, since everything was new to us.
VERDICT: It's a typical authentic place with affordable authentic menus, but I think this place is not so acquainted with newcomers or different people who want to try out those unique cuisines. But it's upto them if they want to limit it to small customer base or elevate to a wider range of people. I have no complains. Might visit this place again to try some...
Read moreHands down one of the best restaurants in the town in terms of shear food. Even though the place looks small it's cozy and apt. With an amazing selection not north Eastern delicacies its probably the best place in the city to try the same and extremely affordable. What makes it better is the quality and the way the food is cooked as if you are actually in North Eastern home . Which makes it the hangout spot for anyone who is from North East and missing home and trust me staff will make you feel very comfortable. I have tried lot of restaurants very few places has such nicely cooked chicken like I had here it was juicy tender and moist and in a flavor full sauce . It honestly cured my fever that day . And if you are a foodie don't hesitate in trying their snails which are may or may not be available depending on the season. One of the best food...
