An Honest Review

I visited MU kalina university on 6th November 2020. And I am living in Mumbai since I was born and know how things actually work here. So, important things I'd like to share on the basis of the things I've seen/faced/experienced. I visited MU for inquiring if I could do UG final year directly after 10+2. I found answers to all my queries after 3 hours. Just for 2 minute thing it took so much time, why?

Is university open? Yes, it's open during Corona situation. Just don't forget mask and try visiting after lunch break, that is, at 2 pm. Because they would mostly not entertain you before 1. Either they're lazily sitting with having zero knowledge or just ignoring your scenario.

What things are mandatory? Avoid visiting on Saturdays Be sure what are you looking for : • University has around 35 buildings and it's not easy to run from one to place to another carrying one query. • For eg: if you don't have correct numbers in your marksheet, ask where is result building or check it on the map displayed on the lanes. 80% people speak here Marathi, if you speak Marathi your work is done quickly.

Why do people face problems while solving their situation? As I said earlier, make a list of things you're looking for. Have clarity in what you're speaking with the person in the inquiry counter. Ask for sending you to the HOD, things might get easy because they know solutions to your problems and are knowledgeable. Not just sitting and filling their pockets. Yes, you might face a situation where you are sent from window to window, read which department are you visiting to.

What is the visiting hours in Corona situation? University is open from 10 am - 6 pm. Avoid Saturdays, Bank holidays, festivals. Dont forget to check if people have gone on strike. Or else your trip would be wasted. Avoid asking for queries via telephone they'd either neglect you or not receive the call.

You don't speak Marathi? Ask for HOD in the inquiry counter of any building, surely HOD's would speak with you in English or Hindi. Take someone with you who speaks Marathi.

You've come to Mumbai University from far away? Come at 10, probably your work would be done till 3 or 4 pm

You have a gap in my educational years and want to do PG? If you wish to do PG from IDOL you'd probably not require gap certificate, mostly you would if you do it otherwise.

What precautions are taken during this situation? Very fees buildings have taken precautions like, they ask one person at a time to go inside. There's marking on the floor (6 feet) If you're pregnant or aren't well, don't worry, they have benches in the entrance of few buildings.

HOPE THIS HAS HELPED YOU :)

THANKS!

Why did I give 3 stars? Just because the University is so huge, a lot can be done, good infrastructure, quality learning, infarct it can also become best university in the world. But thanks to the poor service they're offering which makes me deduct...

The Kalina campus of the University of Mumbai sprawls across a significant 243 acres in Santacruz East, providing a welcome green lung within the bustling metropolis of Mumbai. This extensive space accommodates a diverse array of academic pursuits, from undergraduate degrees to doctoral research, supported by facilities such as libraries, sports complexes, and residential options. While the university boasts a long history and a generally respected name within India, student reviews often highlight a dichotomy of experiences. On the one hand, the sheer variety of courses and the potential for good placements in some departments are seen as positives. However, recurring criticisms point to administrative hurdles, including slow processes and unhelpful staff, as well as occasional issues with the examination system. Furthermore, the quality of education and available resources can vary considerably between different departments and the numerous affiliated colleges under the University of Mumbai umbrella. Some students also express a desire for more practical application within their chosen fields of study.

Subject: Proposal for Implementing a Proactive Update System for IDOL Students

Dear [Recipient's Name],

I hope this message finds you well.

I am writing to address a recurring issue that many IDOL (Distance Learning) students, including myself, have encountered regarding updates and information dissemination. Currently, when contacting the helpline for inquiries, we often receive irrelevant or vague responses, such as "the forms window may open next week," which leads to confusion and frustration among students.

To address this issue and enhance communication and transparency, I propose the implementation of a proactive update system for IDOL students. This system would involve regularly sending out updates and important information via email to all registered students. These updates could include exam timetables, repeater exam details, forms submission dates, and any other relevant information pertaining to academic activities.

Additionally, I suggest creating stream-wise sections within these updates to ensure that students receive information that is specific to their academic programs. This would streamline communication and ensure that students are informed about important deadlines and events that directly affect them.

By implementing a proactive update system, we can significantly improve the student experience and reduce the need for students to rely solely on helpline assistance for information. This would not only enhance student satisfaction but also contribute to a more efficient and organized learning environment.

I urge you to consider this proposal and explore the feasibility of implementing such a system for the benefit of all...

It is the oldest university in India 🙌 The University of Mumbai is one of the largest universities in the world. The university in 2013 had 711 affiliated colleges. Ratan tata is the appointed head of Mumbai University's advisory council. Kalina Campus Examination processes were made more efficient by the introduction of online delivery of question papers for examinations, and assessment of answer books by scanning at remote examination centres. The academic depository of the university was started in collaboration with CDSL in 2015. The university is the first university in the country to start an academic depository. One of Mumbai's landmarks, the Rajabai Clock Tower was completed in the 1870s and houses the University of Mumbai's library. Sir George Gilbert Scott modelled the Rajabai Clock Tower on the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster in London. Local businessman Premchand Roychand contributed to the cost of construction and named the tower in memory of his mother, Rajabai. The tower is 85 m (280 ft) tall and has five storeys. At a height of 9.1 m (30 ft) from the ground, there are eight statues representing the Indian castes. The tower clock is reported to have played 16 tunes including "Rule Britannia", "God Save the Queen", "Home! Sweet Home!" and "A Handel Symphony". On the initiative of the then Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Rajan Welukar, the first phase of restoration of Rajabai Clock Tower started in 2013 and was completed in May 2015. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) gave a Rs 4 crore grant for this phase of the restoration project. Thanks for reading ❤️

As a student navigating the corridors of Mumbai University, I am compelled to share a deeply disappointing experience that reflects systemic neglect and administrative apathy. Despite being one of the largest universities in India, the management here operates with alarming inefficiency. Students are routinely subjected to long queues, unresolved grievances, and a complete lack of accountability. The grievance redressal mechanism is virtually non-existent—when asked about it, staff either deny its existence or redirect students to the Board of Examinations, which itself remains inaccessible and unresponsive. Staff members are frequently "on lunch break" or "in meetings," and when available, their tone is often dismissive or outright rude. Doors are shut during working hours while students wait outside, seeking basic assistance. Emails sent to official departments go unanswered, and technical issues plague even the simplest processes—from mark sheets to exam forms. The quality of education, sadly, mirrors this dysfunction. There is little regard for student welfare, dignity, or timely resolution. The culture seems to prioritize internal comfort over public service, with staff enjoying leisurely breaks funded by student fees, while students struggle for clarity and support. Mumbai University must urgently introspect and reform. Students deserve respect, transparency, and a functioning system—not bureaucratic indifference masked as procedure
