A just okay type of restaurant. It's in the heart of Delhi and you expect place to be very nice , colorful, bright and lavish. It's situated inside the India Islamic center. Entrance is from two side lodhi road the front entrance and the back which is adjacent to indian international centre. Heard very much about kareem and my friend wanted to try out taste buds here.
The seating arrangement is old styled and furniture looks for sure old not antique in anyways. Sofas are not comfy , you kind of sink in them. There were 10 sofas between 5 tables and others tables were with chairs. Looking at all this I thought food might be cheap but not. Look at menu price which I have posted here.
So we sat ordered couple of dishes. I should say I was expecting something extraordinary but when I tasted the first bite the taste was similar. It was similar to what you get to eat in Europian Indian restaurants. The spices used in the dishes were not India they seemed like lahori masalas. I didn't not like food neither in Europe nor here in kareems . Coz I wanted to eat something cooked with our Indian spices which is what we eat everyday. But then it would defeat the purpose of eating here. Well that just me. About the Staff, they were nice and polite.
Improvement: Modern Furniture needs to be brought in along with good lighting. This place needs investment. Also one important thing in todays world this restaurant can't live with just one washroom each for both the genders. I noticed one interesting thing male washroom has translucent glass but I could see the man' legs with his...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRecently visited Karims situated at India Islamic Cultural Centre at Lodhi Road. This is a clean and uncluttered upmarket (in comparison to othe restaurants of Karims) outlet with simplistic decor. Menu is typically Mughlai cuisine with major bias towards non-vegetarian dishes. What we ordered with my ratings out of 5 points....
Mutton Soup - 1 out of 5 - Flavour less hot salted water with added cream and few pieces of chewy Mutton
Mutton Shami Kabab - 4 out of 5 - One of the best in Delhi. Without much of added chana dal and with a prominent texture as well as taste of Mutton
Mutton Seekh Kabab - 4 out of 5 - Made with hand made Mutton keema with rough texture. A little too much fat but it's fine for a robust real seekh Kabab. If you like the creamy melt in mouth kakori type Kabab.... tgen this isn't for you
Mutton Keema - 5 out of 5 - Absolutely a winner dish. Hand made chunky mutton keema made with TEEN MIRCHI (Three types of chillies).... Black Pepper, Green Chilli and Red Chillies. Flavourful and juicy. Must have.
Mutton Nihari - 4 out of 5 - We requested for a small tasting portion and it's absolutely made to the point. Soft mutton and thick flavourful curry. Perfect combination
Khamiri Roti - 4 out of 5 - I've had better at other places but this wasn't any less.
Phirni - 0 out of 5 - Probably our biggest mistake to order this inedible mix of rice flour and minimalistic sugar.... it had no flavour, no aroma and no taste either. If that wasn't enough.... it had acquired excessive smell from the earthen pot it was served in.......
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter a few of my friends and acquaintances suggesting me this particular place to check out, I happened to visit this place on a Monday afternoon just very recently in August 2021 . This would be an independent review since I've never been at Karim's jama masjid. Indian Islamic centre is beautiful and Dilli Dastarkhwan gives you an inviting vibe right from the time you enter that door giving you whimps of the meaty delights in the air you've been used too when you visit any great place. . Closest entry is Gate number 5, when you come inside from the WWF lane. The seating and ambience is good, not very upscale but is very pleasant . We happened to order Murg malai tikka, mutton quorma, mutton nihari, khamiri roti, mutton biryani and shahi tukda to end the meal . I think I came in with alot of expectations but though a pleasant meal didn't give have a wow factor like every Karims is used too.
Maybe we are just used to the wonderful street flavours of jama masjid :) This one takes a step back. . Murg malai tikka however is good!! One would need to put a little lemon juice on top for that extra tang!! We sticked with the ordinary menu Will Order other things in the next visit !!! . Good place nevertheless, good for meals and I think I'll go there whenever I get an opportunity again and maybe put a few of my favs from their menu when I have one, good but not outstanding in my...
