Little Soi makes a striking first impression. From the moment you enter, the ambience is captivatingâan elegant fusion of Indian and broader Asian influences, brought together with thoughtful design and atmosphere. The mood is inviting, sophisticated, and sets the stage for what promises to be a unique dining experience.
The drink menu, to its credit, is exceptional. Carefully curated, it offers a diverse and imaginative selection that showcases creativity and balance. I would return for the drinks aloneâthey are clearly a standout.
However, my experience with the food was less consistent. I opted for the bento box, which, unfortunately, fell short of expectations. While the presentation was pleasant, the beef was overcooked and difficult to chew. More puzzling was the use of basmati riceâan odd choice for a bento-style dish. Typically, one would expect jasmine or sushi rice, especially in a pan-Asian setting that includes Japanese or Southeast Asian influences. Basmati, while excellent in its own right, clashed with the rest of the components.
More broadly, Little Soiâs pan-Asian concept feels overly ambitious. The menu spans everything from Pad Thai to Korean fried chicken, sushi, and Indian-inspired dishes. While diversity can be a strength, here it comes at the expense of depth and cohesion. With so many cuisines under one roof, individual dishes risk feeling generic or underdevelopedâeach fighting for attention on a crowded stage.
As someone with Indian heritage, I understand the frustration when diverse culinary traditions are lumped together or diluted. At Little Soi, this tendency to generalize Asian cuisine undermines what could otherwise be a compelling narrative. A more focused menu, or at least greater clarity in regional inspiration, could elevate the overall dining experience.
Additionally, service issues marred the evening. Our order was not taken correctly, leading to delays and confusionâsomething that shouldnât happen at a venue positioning itself at this level.
In conclusion, Little Soi is a visually stunning venue with clear potential. The drinks are excellent, the ambience is memorable, and the concept is admirable. But for it to truly shine, the kitchen needs to sharpen its focus and treat each dishâand the culture it comes fromâwith the attention it deserves.
Rating: 2.5/5 â Great concept, drinks worth the visit, but the food needs refinement and the service...
Read moreDisappointing Dining Experience â Style Over Substance We visited this restaurant in Coimbatore as a family, hoping for a quiet and refined evening out. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be anything but âfine dining.â Reception with Attitude Right from the entrance, we were put off by the attitude of the lady at the welcome desk. Her demeanor was cold and unwelcoming something you wouldnât expect even from Michelin star establishment, let alone a local restaurant. We almost walked out but decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt. In hindsight, we shouldnât have. Food: Underwhelming and Poorly Executed The dining experience did little to redeem the first impression. ⢠Soup portions were minimal and certainly not worth the prices charged. ⢠Starters and main course were average at best, lacking any standout flavor or presentation. ⢠I was especially excited to try the Kway Teow Malaysian-style noodles, a personal favourite â only to be served a bland, half-cooked version that left me thoroughly disappointed. ⢠To top it off, my daughter ordered a milk-based dessert, only to find that the milk had gone bad â a glaring hygiene and quality issue. Language Barrier & Lack of Trained Staff When we called for help, the staff member who attended to us could not understand or communicate with us due to a clear language barrier. Eventually, the restaurant manager stepped in and to his credit, he was polite, tasted the spoiled dessert in front of us, and acknowledged the problem. But by then, the experience had already soured. Overrated and Not Worth the Price The only saving grace of this restaurant is its central location. The ambience, service, and food quality were all far below the expectations set by their pricing and positioning. For a place that seems to market itself as upscale, unfortunately delivers little value and even less...
Read moreA much needed, speciality cuisine restaurant amidst tons of multi-cuisine restos throughout the city (which although are doing a good job, but offer very little variety in each specific cuisine), LITTLE SOI (also in Chennai and Kochi) is beautifully located within Lakshmi Mills Complex right behind Lulu Hypermarket.
The Menu is extravagant and filled with Asian Dishes that we love and crave to eat whenever we go to Bangalore. Having it now in Coimbatore is definitely an upgrade.
We had a little of everything
Veg Paradise Maki - was as good as any (but I liked Cavern's better) Oyster Mushroom Satay - It tasted good but wouldn't say value for money Tempeh in Hoisin Sauce Baos - Loved this and glad to have Tempeh somewhere in the city. Pala Rendang Nasi Lemak - we are Nasi Lemak fans and after having the best ones in Shivanjali and Kove - this was a bit disappointing - they used Tempeh instead of Jackfruit (Later told us that it wasn't available) and there were no peanuts or pickled veggies on the side - the Rendang was awesome but it missed the mark - they did however not include it in the bill as we were not informed about the alteration to Tempeh so definitely 5â for service.
𼥠Their side sauces are absolutely killer - and definitely order a side of chilly oil to put on everything.
The staff are all adorable but do not know the language hence there was some lag here and there but otherwise very happy with how our dinner turned out.
Would definitely visit again to try rest...
