Permit me, dear reader, to regale you with an effulgent exposition of my recent peregrination to Modern Grill, a resplendent culinary bastion ensconced in the labyrinthine elegance of Paschim Vihar, New Delhi. This establishment is no mere eatery—it is an apotheosis of gustatory felicity, a sanctum where the epicurean soul finds its apogee, suffused with a je ne sais quoi that elevates it to the pantheon of gastronomic sublimity. Upon crossing the threshold, one is enveloped in an ambiance of ineffable raffinement—a mise-en-scène where modernist aesthetics coalesce with an almost Proustian nostalgia. The chiaroscuro of muted illumination bathes the space in a golden penumbra, whilst the dulcet murmur of cultivated discourse intertwines with the bouquet aromatique wafting from the kitchens. It is an overture to a symphony of unparalleled volupté. My dégustation commenced with the Paneer Tikka, a dish of such coruscating brilliance that it could only be described as a tandoori tour de force. Each succulent pièce, imbued with a panoply of spices redolent of the subcontinent’s terroir, bore the fumé imprint of the clay oven—a tender, sapid revelation that lingered on the palate like an indelible palimpsest. Paired with a chutney vert of mint, it was an amuse-bouche of transcendent élan. Yet, the véritable pièce de résistance was the Palak Patta Chaat, a création of such audacious ingenuity that it defies the lexicon of mere mortals. Crisp feuilles d’épinards, frit to a doré perfection, were adorned with a voluptuous cascade of yaourt, tamarin, and épices—an alchemy of textures and saveurs that pirouetted across the tongue with the grâce of a danseuse étoile. It was a plat that married tradition with avant-garde verve, a gustatory sonnet of ineffable beauté. For the plat principal, I surrendered to the Stuffed Chipotle Tandoori Mushroom, a dish so stupendous it could proselytize the most obdurate carnivore. These champignons, plump with earthy gravitas, were farci with a mélange savoureux and kissed by a chipotle chaleur subtile, their fumé richesse amplified by the tandoor’s étreinte. Accompanied by a naan à l’ail of silken tendresse, it was a concord of flavours so profound it verged on the numinous. The dénouement arrived as the Pull-Up Gulab Jamun Cake, a dessert of such beatific opulence that it merits enshrinement in the annals of pâtisserie. Warm gulab jamuns, imbibed with a sirop sucré, nestled within a gâteau tendre, unfurled a torrent of douceur that was both somptueux and divin—an apothéose that left me in a state of béatitude ineffable. The service at Modern Grill is an exemplar of irréprochable finesse—discret yet omniprésent, with a brigade de salle whose prescience rivals that of a clairvoyant. Each gesture was suffused with chaleur and savoir-faire, ensuring an expérience as impeccable as the cuisine itself. This is no mere restaurant; it is a temple de goût, where every plat is an oblation and every convive a venerated aficionado. In the kaleidoscopic tapestry of Delhi’s dining firmament, Modern Grill emerges as a lodestar of insuperable éclat—a havre for those who seek not mere sustenance, but an apotheosis of the senses. It is a destination that commands pèlerinage, a joyau rare that reconfigures the paradigm of haute cuisine. For the élite epicurien, Modern Grill is an apogée of unparalleled félicité—an expérience so resplendent, it reverberates in the soul long after the final bouchée has been savoured. C’est magnifique, nay, c’est...

I had high expectations for Modern Grill, but my experience turned out to be extremely disappointing. They seem to be scamming customers with deceptive pricing tactics. The menu on Zomato listed a dish at ₹385, but at the restaurant, the same dish was priced at ₹575—almost a 50% increase! When we questioned the staff about this discrepancy, they claimed it was due to Lohri. They created a special Lohri menu seemingly designed to overcharge customers. In all my visits to hundreds of restaurants, I’ve never encountered a festival surcharge on food. This kind of approach, especially for a new restaurant, is nothing short of unprofessional and unethical.
Adding to the disappointment, when our main course was served, the owner arrived with his family for dinner. The staff and chef seemed to prioritize serving them, completely ignoring other guests. Basic amenities were also lacking—the RO water system was faulty.
The ambience, while initially attractive from the outside, felt underwhelming once inside. The food was decent, but certainly not exceptional or worth the inflated prices.
Overall, this was one of my worst dining experiences. For a new restaurant, such tactics and lack of customer care do not leave a good impression.
I’ve never written a review in my life, no matter how bad the place or service was. However, after yesterday’s experience, they practically forced me to share my thoughts—and I’m simply...
Read moreVisited Modern Grill today, and honestly, it was a huge disappointment. The restaurant is exorbitantly priced, serving average-quality food with the worst service I’ve ever experienced.
We ordered the Veg Platter (₹1395++), which took over an hour to arrive — and when it finally did, it was a complete waste of money. The flavors were bland, portions small, uncooked, and presentation uninspired. Later, we ordered Dal Makhni and assorted breads, but the experience got worse. The waiter left our food sitting at the bar counter until we finished the platter, and by the time it reached our table, it was cold and unappetizing. The dal tasted unusually sweet, missing its authentic, rich essence, and the breads were soggy and lifeless.
To make things worse, the staff seemed utterly untrained — no cutlery, no napkins, no condiments until we reminded them multiple times. Every single item we ordered had to be followed up at least thrice before it reached our table, even for a can of gingerale.
For the kind of prices they charge, one would expect at least basic hospitality, but the place fails miserably. Highly overpriced for such a simple setup.*
If you truly want a satisfying, good-quality meal, skip this place altogether — just walk over to the nearby Haldiram’s. You’ll get better taste, faster service, and genuine value for money.
