There are some places, which maintain their standards over a long period. The quality of food, service and the overall getup of these establishments does not waiver from their standard and hence there is nothing to write about them. Suonmoi is one of those establishments. There has to be a strong reason for discussing the place and there was one last Friday. When we visited, there was only a table of five available and our party consisted of only three persons. First, they asked us to wait, but later allowed us to occupy the table with one caveat, we will only seat there and when a table is available, we will be transferred there and served. After fifteen minutes of wait and no table vacating, they served us there. What shook me to the core, and the reason for writing this happened next. A family was also seated, just like us. They also ordered the food, but before their food arrived, a bigger family arrived and a table was available and they were made to shift. Thank God, we had changed our table when a smaller table was available. There were other reasons too for this write up. The quality of the “mee-foon” had definitely deteriorated. The taste was not consistent and only in patches gave the glimpses of the real mee-foon, even the glassy look was missing. Although there is an assigned waiter for each table, they operate on co-operative basis. If any table needs anything, the available waiter fulfils the requirement. We had to wait for 10 minutes to refill our water glasses. This sort of lacunae are not unique to this restaurant and are seen in numerous establishment. The problem comes when such establishments levy “fixed (compulsory) service charges”. What authority do they have, especially in the light of Supreme Court judgement, to levy such charge? The downside of “the fixed (compulsory) service charges”, is their below standard service. There is no incentive to provide a...
Read moreQuick read: worth a visit; good food; decently priced; good portion size and neat decor
Almost a hidden gem near bund garden which i hadn't heard of till today; but going by the reviews it seems like quite a famous joint and quite a few tables were occupied too
Efforts put into the decor are nice; a lemongrass room freshener would enhance the asian theme.
Chopsticks aren't offered but surely can be; its just a nice touch which a lot of your clients would appreciate.
Service is prompt but very very transactional with zero inputs given by the staff while placing the order; had to actually call for someone to take my order after sitting for a long time
Coming to the food; i ordered a wonton soup(chicken), manchurian vegetable and Satay Beef; no mains or rice or noodles ordered and neither were they offered by the waiter.
The soup came in first and was nice and they served a substantial portion of it too with 5 wontons inside.. on the downside it was very underseasoned as it tasted like chicken stock. The wontons were lightly filled but the pastry could have been thinner.
Next came in a bowl of complimentary pickled vegetables with a red sauce(sweet). Lacked flavor and depth as it seemed like something they made that morning
Satay and Manchurian arrived in quick succession and were proactively served onto our plates even though i asked him not to(i like to serve myself)
Both were good and the peanut sauce served alongside complimented the flavor of the Satay well. The manchurian balls however didn't have as much sauce around them and seemed too crispy and drier than they should have been.. the flavors were spot on though
Great place to spend a quiet afternoon for lunch as the service isnt too...
Read moreThe food was pathetic is an understatement. It was almost 11pm and we asked the owner (Sayyed) if they are still accepting customers and he said yes. He kept on nagging behind us and asked us to place the order hurriedly..
it is simple… if u let the customer in then it is ur responsibility to treat them right or simply say we are not accepting walkins now..
The food they served was so bad that i cannot even rate it.
We ordered hot garlic chicken from the starter list and they gave us gravy . When informed the staff that this is not starter; the owner came rushing and stated that you didn’t specify if u wanted dry or gravy..!!! My question: if u mentioned it in starter section, why would one mention dry or blah blah… FIRSTLY GET UR MENU FIXED.
Coming over to the food: first time ever in my life i tasted sweet chinese food..
The name is hot garlic chicken but it was as sweet as sugar.
Manchow soup looked like clear soup
and a simple chicken fried rice was tasting like boiled rice with no salt in it..
Lastly the attitude of the owner was very arrogant and too proud to accept his flaws.. When you are in customer service business then you need to oblige to customer needs cuz we are paying for the service..!!! It aint free!! NEVER EVER GOING THERE EVER AGAIN..! Better Chinese is served by Uncle Chinese, Kimling, Chung Fa, Chinese room or any other road side stall prepare Good Chinese food than Suonmoi…!!
Kudos to you sir Sayyed!!! You earned...
