An Evening Ruined by Rudeness and Disrespect at Cup and Kitaab Cafe"
My wife and I decided to spend a relaxed Saturday evening at Cup and Kitaab Cafe. We were looking forward to unwinding together and enjoying what we had heard was a cozy, friendly spot. But what actually happened left us shocked and uncomfortable.
We were simply sitting next to each other, and I had my arm around her shoulder in a casual, entirely normal manner. To our surprise, the owner brought our order to the table, but rather than a warm welcome, we were met with something else entirely. She placed our food down carelessly, looked at us with disdain, and told us to "sit decently" as if we were doing something wrong—something inappropriate or unacceptable. Her tone was shockingly rude, as if she were doing us a favor by serving us at all.
We were taken aback, but we tried to clear things up by politely confronting her about her reaction. Her response? She insisted that “other customers would have a problem with it”—which was surprising, considering no one in the cafe was remotely bothered by us. Then, she crossed another line and accused us of “not having money.” It was an insult not just to our character but to anyone who might expect to be treated with respect, regardless of their background.
Thanks to God’s grace, both my wife and I are fortunate to be doing well in life. But that isn’t the point. We left immediately, feeling humiliated and disrespected in what should have been a simple, relaxing night out.
This incident reflects a fundamental lack of hospitality and professionalism. Customers come to cafes like Cup and Kitaab for a welcoming experience—not to be judged, disrespected, or insulted. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who values being treated with kindness and respect
PS: Well you guys will stoop so low. Its expected from you. The owner’s reply to my review is just a lie. Arm around a shoulder should not be...

Read moreI visited Cup and Kitaab with my friends on a Monday Afternoon and we had a great time all of us were chilling and escaping the summer heat spent almost 5 hours. I love how well this place is Curated, with littlest gifts from various artists and friends of the place. The books that we see here are the personal collection of The owners, and their daughters . Situated inside the park, you can easily cut off a little from Mohali's unbearably disordered traffic and its noise. And I found out about the Open Mics and Exhibitions (flea market) that are about to be a regularly happening events, I found out about this place almost more than two years ago and simce then i have been wanting to go and speand some time here, unfortunately i moved out of the city and i wish I would have visited sooner, as of now you don't get WiFi, they say talk to each other, but if you are alone, you may want to just grab any book and talk to it. I really liked the open space to chill and sit, the Host, Dhwani Khatter, had been very nice and she showed me all around the place, i even got to see the basement kitchen. We ordered Adraki Paneer with Coriander and it was so tasty, been travelling for few days and i just wanted to get Roti-Sabji as we say here, it was perfect paired with Cola! Only a little dissatisfied with chai not being on the menu 😂 but that is okay. Highly recommended to travellers who would want to find out more about Mohali-Chandigarh and establish connections with people around. Even the Menu you will see is made by the daughters of the owners, its funny and different, I enjoyed reading it out loud.
I would also like to add something here, the staff, i think is very judgmental and invasive, this girl just keeps on staring and doing litlle giggles with here friends which i find very common in North India, i just want the owners to see to this and hoping next time there are a little more professionals found...
