Amritsar is famous for world famous Kulche, and among all the rulers of this kulcha heaven, Pehalwan Kulcha is the one who owns the supreme throne of Kulcha king. I wish I could have summed it up in very few words but... there are no worldly limits I could have held myself to stop at when this eatery comes. Taste: 1000000/100 Portions and fulfillment: 1000000/100 Quality of Kulcha: 100000/100 I couldn't skip mentioning how this heaven like kulcha is baked to the perfect level of mind blowing crispness from outside and is wholesome soft from inside, that I could still feel all hungry while typing this review. They have 3 spicy levels to choose from. I recommend medium spice as the base and then spicy as other options to choose. The chhole, well are greatly made with a fine balance of taste and authenticity and are not too spicy. They serve a nice radish and coriander pickle as well. Just 2 kulche down, anyone wont be looking for anything else for dinner the whole day. Coming to the place, this is not a spacious outlet but is a classic Amritsari eatery which is mostly crowded with people willing to have this heavenly experience. The building is old and service is really good. One kulcha is approx 100 Rs with unlimited chhole refil. They are open for 8AM to 2PM I guess. But a must must must have experience to have. At least once in a lifetime thing, with no limits to trials.

Pehalwan/pehlwan/pahelwan Kulcha is far far far better than any other kulcha stores of Amritsar. So if you want to taste a great food, do yourself a favour, walk a bit and reach here. Great food is not found in the profound five star restaurants or in your room at comfort of the room service, it is also not found right outside the main attractions. To taste the best and authentic food, you have to reach far in the heart of City which passes through narrow streets, tall houses and old buildings. Pehlwan Kulcha is one of such greatest place to have authentic Amritsari kulcha ( they neither keep, nor entertain any requests for butter or cheese) and serve directly out of the tandoor with Desi Ghee. A place where Mr. Imtiaz Ali himself come for the food. Kulchas are served with Chhole and chutney sprinkled with raw onions (you can have unlimited chhole) and are available in two types only, mirch wale (spicy) or normal, cold drinks and water is available on MRP. If you are visiting it on weekends or little late after 10 AM, be ready to stand in queue for hours almost for having that one Kulcha. But tryst me, it will be all worth it.

Well Phelwan Kulcha offers the long standing tradition of making Kulcha with no frills and keeping them light, comparatively less buttery like most other places in Amritsar. The simplicity of the taste, place and people is what keeps this a little closer to the heart, keeping you connected to the roots and culture. Though the offering is in just one flavour, i.e. mix Kulcha, it would not disappoint people craving for variety. On speaking, the owner clarified that they maintain kulcha mixture with gobhi across the year at times getting it from as far as Ladakh and Zanskar to bring the Phelwan taste. For anyone and everyone visiting Amritsar, do take the walk down to Phelwan (a 15 min walk) and thou shall come back again and again. More so the walk connects you to the of life in the city, the grain market, the lanes, bylanes, the wholesale shops selling fresh mustard oil, wardiyan, papad, Pindi chana away from the touristy shops. nH Sept 2022

The "most famous" kulcha shop in entire Amritsar. Let's divide this review in two parts: experience and taste. Experience - Firstly, it is not hygienic. They make kulcha in front of you. They are all sweaty and sweat keeps dropping of their foreheads and arms. Secondly, the place also looks like hasn't been painted/renovated since 1947. Thirdly, the most I have waited for any food in my life, was here. I waited for 1 hour 30 mins inside before they served me kulcha and chhola. Taste - This is the best kulcha I have ever had in my entire life. All the frustration goes away when you take the first bite in your mouth. But frustration comes back again because they give you only one kulcha and for the second one you'll again have to wait for 20 mins. Final review is 3 start because it has amazing taste, but the overall experience and hygiene is worse. Also, they charge 70 Rs for one kulcha. I had 2 kulcha and 1 thumsup, bill was 160 Rs.

An honest review -don't go behind hype This place is located in small old city side very hard to reach on car do consider before reaching Cons- Small place , overhyped by blogger -Heavy kulcha you will feel later desi ghee heavy . -Expensive 80 rs for spicy one small size -If you have camera they will entertain you better otherwise be ready to wait . -Long wait since very small area sitting . -Nothing special or extra ordinary if you come asr there much better places like try Ashokie kulcha in ranjit avenue Not value and time for money .overhyped by vlogers . Pros - Old city vibe , narrow lanes and roads Crunch was there taste was good . One time try only . Typical amritsar kulcha . Place was tried to kept clean .

We had our breakfast at Pehelwan Kulcha, they only serve kulcha in the shop and they ask you if you want a spicy kulcha or a normal one. We had their kulcha (spicy), and the taste was amazing. It is one of the best kulchas we had in Amritsar. On the outside the kulcha is extremely crispy and it loaded with desi ghee. The cholle served with the kulcha are not spicy and the onion chutney is tangy in taste. The staff at the place is friendly and the service is quick. Even after so many people sitting in the shop to eat they took maximum 7-8 minutes to give us our order. It's a must try in Amritsar, one of the best!
