Amritsar is famous for world famous Kulche, and among all the rulers of this kulcha heaven, Pehalwan Kulcha is the one who owns the supreme throne of Kulcha king.
I wish I could have summed it up in very few words but... there are no worldly limits I could have held myself to stop at when this eatery comes.
Taste: 1000000/100 Portions and fulfillment: 1000000/100 Quality of Kulcha: 100000/100
I couldn't skip mentioning how this heaven like kulcha is baked to the perfect level of mind blowing crispness from outside and is wholesome soft from inside, that I could still feel all hungry while typing this review.
They have 3 spicy levels to choose from. I recommend medium spice as the base and then spicy as other options to choose.
The chhole, well are greatly made with a fine balance of taste and authenticity and are not too spicy. They serve a nice radish and coriander pickle as well.
Just 2 kulche down, anyone wont be looking for anything else for dinner the whole day.
Coming to the place, this is not a spacious outlet but is a classic Amritsari eatery which is mostly crowded with people willing to have this heavenly experience.
The building is old and service is really good. One kulcha is approx 100 Rs with unlimited chhole refil. They are open for 8AM to 2PM I guess.
But a must must must have experience to have. At least once in a lifetime thing, with no...
Read moreThe place is old and bustling with lots of customers. Situated in the old narrow streets (gullies) it is an eatery established long back. They still maintain the old style shared seating and the appearance of old eateries.
If you are looking for a separate table for a more intimate experience then you will not get it.
The menu is delicious and is limited to Kulcha Medium and Tikha (spicy) Served with boiled chole chaat. Health conscious people can eat it lavishly as no extra butter or oil is used in chole.
The Kulcha is crisp and layered with stuffings like onion and herbs like coriander etc. It is crispy and tastes good alone or with Chole/Kabuli chana (Chickpea). It tastes better if you order a limca in a glass bottle to go with it.
Your car will not reach it as the streets are small and usually one way traffic is seen. But you can park elsewhere and hire some other transport or better just walk.
One thing you might not find like other famous restaurants is the arrogance on part of the owners.
Successful and busy and yet noarrogance. Just humble and smiling.
You might have to wait as the place is crowded. But the wait...

Great food is not found in the profound five star restaurants or in your room at comfort of the room service, it is also not found right outside the main attractions. To taste the best and authentic food, you have to reach far in the heart of City which passes through narrow streets, tall houses and old buildings.
Pehlwan Kulcha is one of such greatest place to have authentic Amritsari kulcha ( they neither keep, nor entertain any requests for butter or cheese) and serve directly out of the tandoor with Desi Ghee.
A place where Mr. Imtiaz Ali himself come for the food.
Kulchas are served with Chhole and chutney sprinkled with raw onions (you can have unlimited chhole) and are available in two types only, mirch wale (spicy) or normal, cold drinks and water is available on MRP.
If you are visiting it on weekends or little late after 10 AM, be ready to stand in queue for hours almost for having that one Kulcha. But tryst me, it will be...
