We went as a family during lunch time. Horrible experience starting from entering we had paid our bill. The appearance of the restaurant was more like a road side shop which we didn't mind as we were only looking for authentic south Indian since we have moved from Bangalore. But we were let down by the service to start off. The waiter was very rude he was not able to repeat the order we gave. When we asked for what's the difference between plain butter uthappam and Butter uthappam he said its the same, when asked why the butter uthappam is priced more, he said if you want to eat just eat don't ask questions. Sambar was nonsense it had cloves , Cinnamon . The Chutney was worst and they call it as coconut chutney, no garnishing was done. When we asked why is this sambar like this , the service fellow told me its their special preparation. I have been bought up in Bangalore and its the hub for south Indian food , i have never tasted a sambar like what I had in Purohit. Uthappam size was also small. Their masala dosa also tasted very raw some of the potatoes was not cooked at al l , it was oily and greasy. i feel that they make all their food either with used oil or some low grade oil. My kids started to have stomach problem even we had acidity issue. The restaurant was also smelling bad because of the cooler they have . We had issue in the bill, they had not remove the item which we had cancelled and when enquired he says just cut the cancelled item and pay the rest . I was shocked if I hadn't seen the bill , I would have paid the amount . I told my driver who got me here never ever bring anymore people to this restaurant.
Spelling in the menu was the part we enjoyed, my kids were making fun.
Décor - 3 / 10 Taste - 1/ 10 Service - I want to give negative mark Cleanliness - 000000.
Guys i would advice you not to venture into this restaurant if you are from outside and thinking that you will get south Indian food. But if you still want to take the risk you will also take the pain to write a review like this. In order to save you time effort and money I am doing this.

Read moreQuality of food is good but management is bad. We had dinner on weekend but had to wait unnecessarily 1.5 hour outside cafe. They will write your name in waiting list but people who came after you will get preference over you. Many families who came after us was called for dinner but no one called us. We were quitely waiting outside that our number will come and they will call us. But now it was one hour. No one called us. Than I asked security guard who was writing names that sir we are waiting for one hour when our number will come. He said I don't know I have send the slip inside. Again we have to wait for 15 minutes. No one called us. We were frustrated and again I asked guard and again same reply. During these 1.5 hour we saw that many families who came after us was given preference. After 1.5 hour we lost control and directly went to see manager and told that we are waiting since 1.5 hour and he said sir you can come inside. At that moment it was confirmed that they don't even bother, you are waiting outside. They should learn the management. People who are waiting outside should be treated equally. I hope next time when I will visit udaipur this thing will...
Read morePurohit cafe is one of the oldest restaurants serving south Indian cuisine in udaipur. In fact I first tasted south Indian dishes here only when I was little. They are serving constant taste and quality since years. Their service is also pretty fast. They serve various types of dosa, idli, vada, uttapams, coffee, dahi vada, chaat items and chhole bhature. This time we had a plate of dahi vada, fried idli and veg rava masala dosa. If you like your dosa crisp then you can ask to keep masala aside like I did. All the south Indian dishes are served with unlimited sambhar, nariyal chutney, green chutney and tomato chutney that I love the most. Here fried idli doesn't mean tava fried idli pieces along with masalas and veggies. They deep fry idli pieces until they are crispy from outside. If you like south Indian dishes then do give purohit cafe a try, they do not operate on fridays so keep that in mind while planning your lunch or dinner here. It is very famous thus you won't have any trouble finding it. It is inside Anand plaza which is opposite Raajwada restaurant.
