If you’re craving authentic South Indian flavors without breaking the bank, Amma’s Kitchen is the place to be. Tucked away in a cozy corner of the city, this humble eatery brings the heart of southern India to your plate with a welcoming atmosphere and a menu that feels like a home-cooked meal straight from a grandmother’s kitchen.

Ambience: The restaurant has a simple, no-frills interior that exudes warmth and comfort. The wooden tables and bright lighting create a casual, relaxed vibe, perfect for a quick meal or a leisurely lunch. The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.

Food: Amma’s Kitchen excels in delivering traditional South Indian dishes that burst with flavor, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. The dosas are a highlight—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and served with a variety of chutneys and sambar that perfectly complement the dish. The sambar has a rich, tangy taste, and the chutneys offer a nice balance of spice and sweetness.

Their idlis are another standout: fluffy, fresh, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Whether paired with the traditional coconut chutney or the spiced tomato chutney, every bite is comforting and satisfying. If you’re looking for something more filling, the vadas are crunchy on the outside yet soft inside, making them a perfect snack or addition to any meal.

Specialties: Amma’s Kitchen also serves excellent rice dishes like the lemon rice and coconut rice, both fragrant and well-seasoned. For those who enjoy a bit of heat, the spicy Kerala-style curry is a must-try, with tender pieces of chicken or vegetables simmered in a rich, flavorful gravy.

Portion Size and Value: Portion sizes are generous, and you’ll likely find yourself leaving with a full stomach and a small bill. The affordability of the dishes, considering their quality, makes Amma’s Kitchen a standout choice for those on a budget but unwilling to compromise on taste.

Overall: For anyone seeking an authentic and affordable South Indian dining experience, Amma’s Kitchen hits the mark. The comforting, flavorful food combined with friendly service and great value makes it a gem in the city. Whether you’re a regular or a first-time visitor, it’s clear that this is a place where tradition and taste come together beautifully.

Highly recommended for a no-fuss,...

Whenever we come to ooty we try to eat our lunch from a kerala restaurant. By the name and its ambience we felt that it is one of them . So we ordered some chicken biriyani and one vegetable biryani. Chicken biriyani is not good as i expected full of masala and there is a bad taste of tomato in it.(but good as compared to other biriyanis that we get from ooty) . When my friend starts to eat his vegetable biriyani he said that it taste like it is wilted , we think that it is over cooked so stop eating that biriyani . But there is full of crowd jin this shop , I don't know what it is for. I think that rice in this restaurant will be nice . My overall rating for chicken biryani is 3 star and for vegetable biriyani is 2 star. Coz we didn't like that veggie it is not good as we expected . He tells that it is wilted ( coz of over time cooked ). and is full of masala . It doesn't give him relax to eat a lunch. I n the case of chicken biriyani they provide 2 eggs with a piece of chicken . That piece of chicken is nice . I like it. But we didn't get a match between that chicken and the biriyani . We think that it is due to over masala . So some people like that biriyani but i didn't . Even though i try to eat masala foods from ooty i didn't like this biriyani much. So when i get a chance to give them suggestion i will tell them to reduce using tomatoes and masalas in the biriyani coz it destroys its taste . And also try to make vegetable biriyani in a good way that can eat others and also to enjoy it. Overall it is good . Others can enjoy to have some biriyanis . The biriyani are also over rated in this restaurant. We orderd malabar biriyani ( or thalasseri i have a little confusion ) but they priced it a huge amount. We didn't expect such a price for...

One of the worst experiences for us. We went there on a weekend and the place was really crowded. The problem is how unorganized their crowd management is. We are supposed to find who might get up soon and linger behind them. Did that and after more than half an hour waiting for someone to finish, we sat. There was no service or cleaning of tables from anyone. Just once a person who seemed to be the manager came and asked if we were finished or just sat. Probably because we were not a big group and the table location where we sat was the problem that we were completely invisible to the waiters. Anyway after about half an hour the previous dishes were cleared off the table. And then came the best surprise. Apparently most of the food was over and only fried rice was left. And that too we heard from order being taken from a nearby table. We never even got the courtesy of being asked what we wanted after waiting for more than an hour! We had seen people sitting at other table being served and finishing meal after we sat down. Finally we just got up and had to walk up to someone who was taking an order at a different table to confirm most of the food was really over and left with one of the worst experiences in a hotel.

The Amma Special Thali is a vibrant culinary experience that showcases authentic South Indian flavors. The variety of dishes served on a banana leaf added a traditional touch that elevated the meal. Each component was thoughtfully prepared, with highlights including the rich and flavorful curries, the perfectly spiced meat dishes, and the tangy rasam. The papadam and fluffy steamed rice provided the perfect base to soak up the flavors. The beetroot sabzi added a refreshing, earthy balance to the heavier dishes. The portions were generous, making it a fulfilling meal for any foodie. The service was prompt, and the ambiance of the restaurant, with its cultural elements, further enriched the experience. Overall, the Amma Special Thali is highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a hearty and authentic South Indian meal.
