A Disaster at Banana Leaf, Thanjavur My Sunday lunch experience at Banana Leaf in Thanjavur was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant visit I have ever endured. From start to finish, it was a masterclass in terrible service, disorganization, and outright rudeness.
The Endless Wait Begins Upon arrival my kins & I were seated and then left to languish for nearly 15 minutes before anyone even bothered to bring us a menu. This was just the beginning of the frustrating waits to come.
The "Rude Woman" and Order Fiasco After another significant delay, a server (a truly rude woman) finally approached our table to take our order. Astonishingly, she tried to dictate in a very hurried way what we should choose, but we patiently gave her our order: two mutton biryanis, naan, chicken gravy, prawn pepper fry, chicken lollipop & on. She confirmed everything was available.
Water? What Water? We then waited another 15 minutes for our food. When we finally managed to flag down a server and request a simple 1-liter water bottle, he returned 5 minutes later with an unbelievable declaration: water bottles were "unavailable." I have never, in all my years of dining, encountered a restaurant that couldn't provide a basic water bottle. We had to resort to getting water bottle from our car.
The Ever-Shrinking Menu Just 10-15 minutes later, the same server reappeared to inform us that both the chicken lollipop and prawn pepper fry were, in fact, unavailable. Despite having confirmed availability earlier, we were forced to replace them with tandoori chicken after re-confirming its availability.
Food Arrives...Eventually, and Incomplete Another 15-20 minutes crawled by. Eventually, the naan and chicken gravy arrived, but we were told the biryani would require yet another 15 minutes. When the biryani finally did appear, it was clear that the service had been nothing short of a disaster. Nobody seemed willing to attend to our table, and the hospitality was non-existent.
The Bill: A Final Insult The nightmare wasn't over. When the bill arrived, they had the audacity to include the unavailable chicken lollipop and prawn pepperfry. We pointed out their error, and while the man cleverly removed those two items, he failed to remove the GST charged on them! We had to meticulously check the bill again and demand that the incorrect GST be deducted.
Making us to believe that food is being prepared & after long wait telling us most of our orders were unavailable is unacceptable at any cost. This entire experience at Banana Leaf in Thanjavur was an absolute disgrace. The worst service, rudest lady staff, (except one server & a senior humble person at bill counter) and complete disorganization made for an unforgettable and utterly negative dining experience. I would strongly advise anyone considering this restaurant to look elsewhere.
Only good thing is biryani & garlic naan...
Read moreWorst Service. No cleanliness at all. No respect for customers. This restaurant is suitable only for drunk yards who come in with no sense of taste or cleanliness. We offered the biriyani to street dog, that was the condition of the biriyani.
We ordered 3 fried rice and 2 biriyanis since that was the only menu available in that restaurant on a Saturday Night, at first the fried rice came, the rice was not cooked at all, then the rest rice also came in, which was also not cooked well. We tried complaining to the manager, but he responded back “fried rice apdi dhan irkum” if you want please eat. So understanding the condition of the hotel, we wanted to cancel the biriyani. But they were stubborn on asking us to eat the biriyani since it was ordered. That was unethical, since we requested cancellation way before the food was brought within minutes of ordering. The complete staff at hotel was against us on demanding us to eat or to parcel. The biriyani was the worst, the kitchen was very unclean and dirty. I also lodged a complaint in Food Department on Consumer Forum. The toilet had no latch to close, which made us more frustrated. The bill was 1300+ including the cancelled biriyani.
The Banana Leaf Hotel is more greedy on money making and not on running the restaurant with Satisfied Customers.
End of the incident. We didn't eat any food at this hotel, except few spoons of fried rice. And in return...
Read moreWell was not sure if I should try but still went ahead since i was hungry and hadn't eaten the whole day . Ordered mutton biryani and i must say the taste was good but the quantity was very less for the charge.... Now comes the best part where the rest of my money went waste... ordered ghee roast and no where it looked like ghee roast... Being a restaurant catering to south Indians this was disappointing and when informed the staff they told us they would change it but just took the same dosa and tried to make roast out of it... That's ridiculously insane......then comes the tandoori roti and paneer tikka masala. tandoori roti was burnt and certainly did not look like a roti.. i should have taken a picture but didn't want to because there were quite a few customers. Paneer tikka masala was the worst of all. Where on earth do we get tikka masala as sweet.. if you wanna try that then come to this restaurant (pun intended).. BOTTOM LINE - ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY AND MY SINCERE ADVISE TO VEGETARIANS DON'T GO FOR VEG FOOD IN THIS RESTAURANT... EVEN THE NON VEG TRY AT...
