It was boring and was watching Kripal Amanna food vlogs and he was describing about the famous "saidapet vada curry" and how it is very different in this famous Mari hotel. Just for your information this hotel has been functioning in this same location for the last 62 years. wow wow almost a life time.
So we decided to give it a try and see how unique the "saidapet vada curry" is in this hotel.
Weaved through evening rush hour traffic and finally reached this hotel. Hotel in a very very congested area, where even 2 wheeler parking is very difficult but we were very lucky to find a parking spot for our car. ha ha ha ha.
Went in, as expected hotel was very crowded, more crowd in the take away section too. Lucky we found a spot to sit and we did order set dosa with vada curry.
Service was good and fast, and the set dosa and vada curry was served very hot. First taste of the famous vada curry along with set dosa, was wow wow . The aroma, the taste, the spices was all perfect. So we asked for a extra plate of "Saidapet vada curry". ha ha ha .
Set dosa was yellow in color and they say that coloring agent is added to give that yellow color. We did try their idli also which was also soft and very nice.
On the whole it was worth the drive in that rush hour traffic to this hotel to taste their set dosa...

I ordered set dosa with vada curry, along with pongal and vadai. The highlight was definitely the set dosa with vada curry. The vada curry was rich, flavorful, and had just the right consistency to complement the ser dosas. The blend of spices was aromatic without being overpowering, and every bite was satisfying.
The pongal was on the milder side, which I actually appreciated. It had a subtle ghee aroma and a soft texture, perfect for those who prefer a lighter breakfast option. The vadai was crisp on the outside and soft inside—served hot and fresh, just the way it should be.
What stood out was the homely feel of the food—it wasn’t overly commercial or greasy. Everything tasted freshly made and balanced.
If you’re someone who enjoys traditional South Indian breakfast and happen to be around Saidapet, I’d definitely recommend giving this place a try. Especially if you're curious about the origin story of vada curry, this spot is worth a visit. A simple place with flavors that speak...
Read moreLocal restaurant in the interiors of saidapet mostly patronized by locals coming for parcels. Not bad, but not Great.
I eat at adyar Sangeetha restaurant which gives vadacurry with idly with additional sambar, chutneys, podi.
So wanted to try here... I didn't like the taste of chutney and sambar may be the water?. HOT Vadacurry costed 24 rupees for 2 idlis of 20 rupees in the morning at 7.30am. Vadacurry is of OK taste not that great. Chutney and sambar may not suit all palettes. Regulars may like it but not worth a trip just for this braving traffic, struggling parking, etc.
If you are in the area, then ok. I prefer adyar Sangeetha restaurant vadacurry.
It looks like it has been there for generations inside the saidapet locality. Ambience: don't expect much. Eat and get out. About five 4 seater tables, no AC. Not good for dates, I see mostly single men eating and carrying parcel home.
Parking is a problem as it is in the narrow streets of a residential area.
Brave and taste it once if you are a foodie, go without much...
