Review: Muniyandi Vilas, Kotturpuram - Good Food, No-Frills (Seriously, No Frills)
So, if you're around Kotturpuram and looking for a quick, tasty, and seriously cheap meal, Muniyandi Vilas is your spot :)))))))
The Food:
Fried Rice & Chicken Biriyani: Honestly, this is where they shine. Both the Fried Rice and the Chicken Biriyani are properly good. We're talking flavourful, decent portions, and cooked just right. They definitely hit the spot if that's what you're craving. For the price, the quality is surprisingly high – solid stuff, easily the main reason people go there. Let's say a strong 9/10 for both. Chicken Leg Fry: The leg fry is decent. It's crispy, seasoned okay, and gives you that chicken fix. It's not quite on the same level as the rice dishes, but it's a perfectly fine side order. Think 7/10 – does the job, but won't blow your mind.
The Price:
This is the other big plus. The Fried Rice/Biriyani comes at around ₹110, and the Chicken Leg Fry is about ₹50 (as of your info, prices might change slightly!). For Chennai standards, especially for food this tasty, that's excellent value for money. You get a filling meal without emptying your wallet.
The Place Itself (The Catch):
Okay, here's the thing: eating at Muniyandi Vilas isn't the best experience. It's usually very crowded and cramped. Finding a comfortable spot can be tough, and you'll likely be bumping elbows. It also gets really hot inside, especially during Chennai's warmer months (which is most of the time, let's be honest). The ventilation isn't great. Overall, the atmosphere is just basic – functional at best. It’s not a place you'd go to relax and enjoy a long meal.
Verdict & Recommendation:
Muniyandi Vilas serves genuinely tasty Fried Rice and Biriyani at fantastic prices. The Chicken Leg Fry is alright too. It's a great spot if you prioritise flavour and value over ambiance.
Best approach? Takeaway (Parcel). Seriously, just get your food packed and eat it somewhere more comfortable – at home, in your office, wherever. You get the excellent food without having to deal with the cramped, hot conditions inside.
So yeah, go for the food, especially the rice dishes, but maybe plan on eating...
