I am giving this restaurant a one star review, just so that I can leave a review. The restaurant doesnt even deserve a one star review. DONT BE FOOLED BY THE GOOD REVIEWS ON THIS RESTAURANT. Iftar buffet review, long review ahead:
Worst Iftar Buffet Experience – A Total Scam!
If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I went here after seeing some YouTube reviews, thinking it’d be a decent spot for iftar. Biggest mistake ever.
First of all, the place was jam-packed like a ration shop. They had overbooked tables, and there was no proper arrangement. It was chaotic, noisy, and suffocating, with barely any space to move. On top of that, water was dripping from the AC straight onto our shoulders—what kind of third-class ventilation is this? Felt like I was sitting in a broken bus stand rather than a restaurant.
Now, coming to the so-called “buffet” – the food tasted like absolute garbage. Nothing was fresh, nothing was served on time. The chicken was so hard, I’m pretty sure it was very old. The snacks they served at our table weren’t even given to others and vice versa—total inconsistency. And guess what? The only thing that arrived on time was the damn bill. They did not even refill the plates, just so that the people reuse them and don't eat much.
A special shoutout to their Nomu Kanji, which is an ideal part of any iftar buffet. It was over once it was time for iftar, and we did not get even a taste of it. They did not even bother to fill it back up in the counter. After it was refilled, there was a huge crowd, gathered to try the Nombu Kanji. I was shocked to taste it. It had the taste of Sambar! Worst Nombu Kanji EVER!
We waited 30 minutes just for a falooda that was already included in the buffet. The staff? Clueless, careless, and had a total “IDC” (I don’t care) attitude. They didn’t bother to check on us or even acknowledge our complaints. It felt like they were doing us a favor by letting us eat their substandard food.
Honestly, this place should be shut down for ruining iftar like this. Absolute waste of money, zero hospitality, and a scam in the name of a buffet. I even attached a video—so there’s no way they can deny how pathetic their service is. Begging won’t help—fix your damn restaurant instead. Defenitely not worth 800 INR, the time, or the...
Read moreI like it when Chennai restaurants takes a bold move away from the regular hit dishes like Roti and Briyani. Palmshore is one such restaurant that decided to move towards such challenges by offering a Mediterranean Indian dishes. The Medavakkam branch is exactly opposite Jayachandran. Only after then I noticed that this surrounding area along the stretch of Velachery Tambaram Main road hardly has any good restaurants. Another bold move to be the first few big restaurants in this area. The restaurant has car parking and bike parking on the ground level but very few slots. May be around 7 car parking slots. On a busy day this would be hardly enough.
Entering inside the restaurant, the first thing that catches your eye are those marinated meats in the glass box. The next big thing that catches your attention are those colourful sit down booths were you can sit down with family or a group of friends and have your meal the traditional Arabian way. Really cool move Palmshore! The menu has a ton of meat options. The rice varieties are limited to Mandi and A few Dum Biriyanis. I hardly remember seeing any regular dishes like rotis or noodles and that’s a good thing. We want to see more of these speciality restaurants in Chennai. And remember to NOT bring your vegetarian friends here this time. Vegetarians are sure to get disappointed.
We got some bbq chicken, fish polichathu, goat Mandi and mutton dum Biriyani. The BBQ chicken was PERFECT. Never could remember eating anything by as juicy as this chicken in a LONG time. The fish polichathu came as a disappointment as the fish felt dry and chewy. The mandi is quite unique. It is a hard sell for our spicy chennai palates. I wish they could have twisted the Mandi by adding spicy or creamy sauces that appeals us rather than the dry flavoured rice. The biriyani though good was not excellent.
Overall it’s a must try restaurant for first timers to check out the ambiance and the unique menu offerings. The restaurant also falls on the expensive side costing close to Rs.1200 for two. Sadly, I don’t see myself coming...
Read moreWe went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We went only at 3pm, we thought maybe theu might be closing but to our surprise they were full and there was a crowd waiting in line. Even after 3pm people were walking in and waiting to get a table. Good ambience and very neat and clean. Clearly it is very popular amongst people. Though it was very crowded but they have enough staff. Infact a lot of staff. As people are leaving, tables are being cleared quickly for others to occupy. There are so many staff that every table gets their service on time. We did not have to wait too long to get our order taken or our food to arrive. So great management on a busy afternoon during lunch. Food was good too. As it was only my husband and I so we did not order too much. We ordered butter nan with Paya pepper masala and kadai vegetables as I am a vegetarian. Taste was great. We ordered egg podimas too but it was a bit too much for us so we had to pack it. For dessert we ordered a Kunafa and a palmshore special falooda. Falooda was good and thier large is quite big. Kunafa was not too sweet which is a plus but the cheese inside was not stretchy as an actual Kunafa is supposed to have. So that was the only issue. Otherwise taste was ok.
Pricing for the portions is fine. Not too overly priced. I forgot to get pictures of the menu but they did have a lot of sharing big platters and mandi biryani which i feel should be had with a large group of people.
This is one restaurant where i don't mind going back with the rest of my family and let them try the big platters etc. A...
