Went here for a birthday dinner with 7 of us. Since it’s Sheraton, we obviously expected a good experience. The place is definitely well-known, and the ambience was nice open setup, dim lighting which some people might find aesthetic, but honestly, we could barely see what we were eating. We tried the Kozhi Pachai Masala.. it just tasted like spinach gravy with hardly any chicken. Didn’t really have any punch or depth to it, and it was ₹1070… Felt like something was missing. We also ordered neer dosa, and surprisingly it came with no sides. Like, how are we supposed to eat it? On top of that, we had ordered two sets of neer dosa, but they arrived 30 minutes apart not one after another, but with a huge gap. We actually forgot we’d ordered the second one until it showed up. That whole part was just confusing and disconnected. Tried the prawn biryani too and it just didn’t hit the mark. The prawns and rice felt like two separate things. The flavours didn’t blend at all, and again, it took really long to arrive. Service was polite, not blaming the staff they were nice but it was clear the place was understaffed. Every time we needed something, someone from our table had to get up and call someone. We had to ask for the menu twice, and dishes took quite a while, even though they weren’t very complicated. Tried ordering Golden Sparrow wine, but they didn’t have it. There weren’t even basic drink options available (including wine). And ₹650 for kulfi? I get it’s a luxury restaurant, but that pricing made zero sense. Desserts were okay taste-wise, but didn’t feel worth it, they were served like they would be in a regular café, or even more basic. There wasn’t even any proper plating or effort in how the desserts were presented. We do appreciate the space and how the staff handled things despite being short-staffed, so full respect there. But overall, wouldn’t personally return or recommend it for food. Especially if you’re going for taste or comfort.. it just didn’t deliver. Maybe it works for the occasional splurge, but honestly, a place like this should make you feel special. You shouldn’t be going home after dinner still feeling like you need to eat something because you weren’t satisfied. I dont complain the price of the hotel. But i expect quality. The food should leave a memory, not just a bill.
Excellent people including the support staff but somehow things dont merge and food...
Read moreTL;DR Delicious South Indian fare, amazing sea side ambience, laid back service, delicious cocktails.
We had a dinner at C Salt during our stay at Sheraton. It was not operational for the first few days due to Cyclone Nivar but we were fortunate to get to dine there on our last night of the stay. The ambience of the space is absolutely amazing. It is on the beach side and not really on the beach like KoKoMMo at the Intercontinental, but that doesn’t take away anything from the charm of having the cool sea breeze as you sip your drink and watching the reflection of the moon dance on the dark night sea. Most of the seating space is in the open gardens and there are few tables on the elevated wooden deck which has a roof but still open on 3 sides to have great views of the sea.
For starters we had Vazhaipu vadai which is deep fried banana flower vadas with chilli guava dip, and Meen kal varuval which is marinated king fish cooked on a griddle. I also ordered a cocktail called Malabar Mule that had American whiskey, Kokum syrup and ginger ale. The drink was served in a ceramic mug and tapioca chips were the snacks to accompany it. The drink was absolutely smashing, it had a punch but the local touch of Kokum syrup made it even better. The vazhaipu vadai were nice and crisp outside and soft inside, although we didn’t enjoy the chilli guava dip much. They were good on their own though. The fish was so delicately cooked, it was just melt in the mouth! For mains, we had Alleppey fish curry with Kerala brown rice and curd rice. The fish curry had a subtle taste and a smooth texture due to coconut milk and went well with the rice. Curd rice came with pickle and applam, simple yet delicious. We didn’t try any desserts but I am sure they will be delicious too.
Overall the service was a bit slow but we didn’t have anything to complain about and enjoyed our long chat on the beach side table. As we finished our food and were about to pay, it started pouring rain. Everyone rushed on the covered deck. The staff was swift in providing everyone with towels and escorting people back to the main resort building who were done with their dinner.
The prices are on a higher side but it’s an experience to be had. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would love to visit the restaurant again to try few other dishes. I would recommend making a reservation before going as it gets...
Read moreI was here with my colleagues and client delegates on 22nd Jun. I had called and booked for 13 people one week ago but when I turned up for dinner on 22nd Jun, I was told that there is no booking !! I was shocked and showed the person my call history as well which showed the CSalt reception number and call duration. I was told that it is all occupied but they will manage to find seats. 5 mins later, I was told that I will be accommodated and I felt relieved. I was also told pre-defined menu is available. Later, when everyone were seated (including my client), the menu was clearly orally provided and then a whopping charge was told to me personally. I was again shocked and had to discuss about reduction of charges but cutting down menu etc., Food was fine no concerns. Atmosphere /seating was not great. There were flies all around. One fan was provided. Less lighting. It was very humid and sultry. When we finished dinner, I still saw that there were many seats which were not occupied. At the end, though client was happy about the food not the atmosphere and I was happy that we finished our dinner, I felt cheated about the booking and the whopping charges. Please look into...
