Indulge into mouthwatering Chinese food amidst a romantic ambiance @ Chowman, Barasat.!
Located just off the Dukbunglow Crossing at Barasat, this newly opened branch of Chowman is perhaps everything anyone could ask for being a gastronomist and a food lover. After garnering popularity and fame due to the quality of food they serve, Chowman is already a crowd-favorite among foodies of all masses. The promise of flavour, taste and quality is undeniable and something guaranteed whether you come for a dining experience or whether you choose to sit back at the comfort of your residence and ask for a home-delivery. This newly build up restaurant retains almost all of the interior looks you may have seen elsewhere in other branches.
The beautifully golden round plates containing different Chinese dialects, the lovely looking Buddha statue on the outside, the semi-cylindrical prayer beads reminiscent of any Buddhist temple, the walls with a rustic white look, the ambiance as a whole is mesmerizing and will keep you hooked up as long as you stay inside enjoying your food. Amidst the whole pandemic scare, the restaurant is trying its best to follow to safety norms and adhere to requisite precautions. It all starts with sprinkling of sanitizers beneath your shoes and on your hands, followed by temperature checks and jotting down of your credentials.
You get to scroll through the disposable, one-time use menu cards and make your picks. The food gets served in the bio-degradable plates, having its own set of cutleries. Once done, these plates along with the used cutleries, gets disposed of, with proper care and supervision. This entire process of safety and precaution, along with the high quality biodegradable plates adds a mere amount of 25 rupees per person to the entire bill, but then such a mere amount is perhaps well worth the spend, if it amounts to us keeping safe and not letting us deter from enjoying our favorite food at a loved restaurant while spending time with our loved ones.
We began our meal with a Chowman’s favourite soup; an assortment of fresh vegetables like broccoli and cabbages with tender slices of chicken and juicy portions of prawns. The broth was a clear one, with a touch drop of red chilli oil for that kick. Once you mix everything, a single sip is all you would require to freshen up your palette and energize your mind. The combination is such ecstatic and near perfect, that I barely required any extra condiments to be added on to my soup. A perfect mixed meat two flavored soup you would ever find anywhere. For starters, we chose Drums of Heaven and Pan Fried Chilli Fish to accompany us till the mains would arrive.
The Drums of Heaven was juicy and succulent, with a prominent presence of ginger, bell peppers and caramelized onions, this Indo-Chinese favorite dish was tossed in different Chinese sauces, thus imparting a smoky and rich flavour onto it. The Pan Fried Chilli Fish had crispy chunks of Basa fillets, batter fried and tossed in house sauces along with garlic, onions and house chillies. For mains, we devoured Mixed Fried Rice and Thai Style Hakka Noodles along with Kung Pao Chicken and Roasted Chilli Pork in a semi-gravy style. The Mixed Fried Rice had fried rice tossed in salt, pepper, egg whites, chicken and prawns and garnished with coriander and spring onions.

Unfortunately, the experience was not as expected. The Basa fish was much sweeter than anticipated and very watery, rather than the semi-gravy consistency I had specifically requested. This made it quite bland and unappetizing. While the quality of the fish pieces was good, the preparation did not meet expectations.
Additionally, the garlic mushroom was average, and the portion sizes were quite small—not sufficient for two people. Given that we were very hungry, having skipped lunch, we were disappointed with the meal but did not have the energy to request a replacement.
Since this was a Sunday and 4 PM is not typically a rush hour, I was expecting better attention to detail in following special instructions. I kindly request that such issues are avoided in the future to ensure a better dining experience.
Thank you for your time and understanding. I appreciate your attention to this matter.
Additionally, a customer service agent—a male person whose phone number is provided in the attached image—called me. He tried to convince me and repeatedly apologized. I asked him to inform the chef about the issue so that it could be rectified for future orders.
However, instead of addressing my concerns, he suddenly asked me to remove the complaint, saying it would be "good for them." But why should I remove the complaint? What reason do I have to do so? He provided no resolution, nor did he seem genuinely sorry.
Why should I remove the complaint? First, I order food and pay more than 500 then I receive poor-quality food, and now your team calls me just to ask me to withdraw my complaint? This is completely unacceptable. If the food was horrible, am I not allowed to complain? What kind of...
